I've been accepted to both and can't decide. I'm an out of state from both institutions.

Where are you originally from? I don't know if you know this but U of M 3rd and 4th year student get automatic scholarships even if you're out of state. I don't know if UIC does that but thats one big pro for U of M 🙂

I'm from California. Yes, Dean Perry did mention that. All P3 and P4 receive them regardless of gpa? I heard that out of state can establish resident status at UIC but I'm not certain whereas it's not likely at U of M. Are you from in state?

When I interviewed at Michigan, I got the impression that it's not very easy to establish in-state residency for tuition purposes. I could be wrong, though. I remember talking to current students at lunch & they were talking about how it was worth attending the school, even though they were paying OOS tuition.

Here's a link that might be helpful:

The school (U of M) has great program, it's just a let down that Dean Perry is retiring.
From my research, I dont think you can get in-state tuition while in school (ppl from out-state). You can only establish residency while you are not in school.

Besides that if you are a California person, you might not like Michigan that much (it's just me).

Oh? How so besides weather? Both uic and michigan are cold.

never being to uic, so I can only say my opinion about Michigan =\

Another thing is, Michigan feels very "flat". As a californian, I am used to seeing mountain.

Michigan is probably a "better" school, but I'd rather be in Chicago than Ann Arbor, and is slightly warmer. I'd do UIC

Michigan also have a super nice looking campus. Not to mention its medical school campus (HUGE), and its huge hospital (I mistaken it as a factory when I saw it the first time) Also, area around the campus are pretty nice. Its a good college town.

From what I've read on these boards, the Chicago area is really saturated with pharmacists and schools, so it might be a difficult place to land a job.

Ann Arbor is a beautiful city, and smaller and more personable than Chicago. Plus, Michigan is a really well-known school across the US.

I vote Michigan.

I am considering between UIC, OSU, and UB. OSU and UB students can establish residency after their P1 year for tuition purposes.

Does anybody know for sure if you can establish Illinois state residency after P1 at UIC so you can get in-state tuition for your P2-4 years?

It's very unlikely to establish Illinois state residency at UIC. Work salary has to be half the OOS tuition, proof that you're not in Illinois just for school, etc. BUT I do know 1 student who has been able to get residency status

When I interviewed at UIC and asked jow difficult it was to establish in state residency for tuition purposes, I was told that it was near close to impossible. The one solution that I was told, was to marry someone who lives in Illinois.
