I heard somewhere that only about 6% of the students admitted to UIC med school are from the gppa program. If the total is around 320, that means around 20 students, but there are usually 40 or 50 admitted initially in the gppa program. Does it mean that half of them are out of the program by the end? Anyway, my main question is if you know approximately how many of the students accepted in the med school (or %)actually come from the UIC undergrad pre-med program but outside of the gppa? Or they accept only those from the gppa? There are usually around 250 in-state students admitted. What's the percentage of those coming internally from UIC pre-med program but outside of gppa? I assume that bunch of them (in-state) are those rejected by U of Chicago, Northwestern, Urbana Champaign etc. Thanks!

Numbers are off! They admit north of 600 people total, so 6% would be more like 40. There are more than 400 instate admits per year.

A lot of kids in these guaranteed programs are often strong enough to apply out and matriculate at USNWR T-20 schools. Hence, the number of kids matriculating at UIC Med from the GPPA cohort will probably be less than the number of people who initially joined GPPA.

Also, the number of students "accepted" into the guaranteed program is different from the number of students who "enrolled" in the guaranteed program. Kids who get into these programs also likely have other scholarships/prestigious offers to choose from, too, and don't matriculate at the guaranteed program.

Thank you all for responding. I guess what I am asking is if there is a chance to get into the Medical School at UIC if one is in pre-med at UIC but not in the gppa based on the numbers from previous years.

Yes.

Yes, ~25% of the class is from their own undergrad, so there are people getting in not from gppa. And I think gppa is only like 30 people per year, not 50?

the school itself reports 50 see my earlier post
That might be the number offered admission, as opposed to about 30 actually matriculating? Like I think ~30 of their ~75 home matrics are from gppa
