UIC's unranked--does this mean that it's considered a low-tier school? I keep hearing conflicting stories about how good this school is and it's the most practical in state option I have...

(I'm trying to compare UIC to MCW, SLU, Rush, and SIU)

UIC's got the largest medical school in the country.
Their research budget is just under $300 million, so a number comparision would put it high up on funding lists (top 25 I think). But given the size of the student population and number of faculty, the budget is somewhat deceptive (Harvard, for example is about half the size and gets over $1 billion in research funding annually).

note that according to US world and news, it's medical school is #62 in the country, if that means much to you; it's nursing school rates SIGNIFICANTLY higher (top 10)

Everyone of their graduate schools is ranked top 30 basically. Everyone but their med school

It's all about hard you work once you're in. You can still go on to a great residency. Plus UIC has a really diverse student body.

UIC
MCW
Rush = SLU
SIU

What I know about UIC (and when I mean UIC I mean the 4 yr program in Chicago), it's very good. Look at their match list; it is stellar. I had never heard of MCW until about a year and a half ago, but people don't talk about it in Missouri. Their match list is also good, and kids seem to love the place. Rush and SLU are equal in that their both expensive and average medical schools with similar pros/cons. SIU's match list makes you fret if you want to be a specialist.

THEY ARE ALL GOOD SCHOOLS...and can get ANY residency you want from from any school you go to.

🙂

Low-tier schools are off shore. I happen to know that one of the program directors, replete with high impact publications, at Hopkins went to a school that wouldn't make most people boast.
