Did anyone recieve an Addendum email from UIC with four essay questions from which two youa re supposed to write about? What is the deal with this?

WTH! More essays? jeez!
I haven't gotten them yet though. I just mailed in my secondary yesterday. Did only 2/3 essays in that because one of them did not apply to me.

i called them last week to confirm my status is complete. they said my file is going to be reviewed soon for an interview and didnt mention anything about these additional essay questions. they seemed really unorganized to me as well. go figure.

2. How would you like to be described by your patients? What are the particular skills and attributes you think you have that will make you a good physician?
3. What do you feel should be your contribution to society?
4. Select an area of medicine that you think you might be interested in and tell us the characteristics someone in this area of medicine should possess. If you do not have an area of interest, think of someone you know in a medical field and write about the characteristics you feel they should possess.

WHAT THE FU#K?? If they wanted essays why didn't they put them in their SECONDARY application? Why are doing this horse$hit now, after most of us have breathed a sigh of relief at finishing essays? I've been complete there for months, I want an interview invite from them, not an email asking for more essays! 😡

my guess...
So many people have applied there that they cannot possibly screen everyone (they got rid of their formula screen this year IE the michigan fiasco last year). Therefore, they are hoping LESS people apply by making MORE essays required. And the essays are very hard to find material to copy and paste from. Very Pritzker-ish of them.

i got it today too ! The first thing I looked for was what I could copy and paste but unfortunately there isn't much. So I guess I will have to write from scratch 😳 good luck writing everyone ! < just when we thought it was all over> 🙄

This is bit off topic, but I am just curious what are people thinking when they apply to UIC from out of state. It costs about $50,000+ for out of state residents. How many of you will actually go to UIC if accepted?

Hey everyone, I called them just now! The woman said that the Dean wanted to ask these question a while ago, however the essay questions needed to be approved by the board. I guess it took them this long to approve the questions. She specifically said that it doesn't mean that we did anything wrong, or that we are extra special. Supposedly, they are just playing catch-up!

when i interviewed there last year, the chicago campus was filled up around early december. I wonder if the addendum has any effect on admission to the chicago campus this year. Do you think the chicago campus would fill up later because applicants take time to do these essays? Have UIC started interviewing students? Wouldn't these students receive a distinct advantage (to get a seat at the chicago campus) in terms of timing?

On other threads people mentioned that they got interviews for UIC this week. Do those people still have to do these additional questions? From the UIC email, it sounds like they won't even review our apps until they get the response to these questions. Is that the impression you guys are getting?
I have an interview with UIC on October 28 and I received the addendum email today. Several friends of mine that interviewed in the last 2 weeks also received the essay request... Why on earth do we have to do this? I thought I was done with essays! 👎

I just wanted to say that I took the August MCAT, hence got the secondary less than a week ago, and the "addendum questions" were part of the secondary, on page 11 of 12 of the attachment. So, for anybody else still wondering, it seems that they are in fact mandatory- wouldn't make sense/be fair to make some people write the essays and not others... then again, sucks that they're making people who thought they were complete write them now...

See I don't understand this addendum....
when I called the office because I mysteriously received a call from there that apparently no one knew about, they said that my file was complete. Then, when I mentioned the fact that I had received another secondary, he said I had to finish the essays before my file could move on?? I don't get it and I don't have any time in the near future to do this....ugh....
