I would honestly put it down to the money spent; whether you think its going to be a huge deficit to go to Columbia and live in NYC. Being from Illinois myself, I wouldn't go to UIC - I want a larger class size!
If I were you I'd chose base on answering a few questions...
Does the money difference make a huge difference to you?
Are you interested in specializing? If yes, --> columbia
Location - Columbia not in the best area, UIC - middle of chicago
Do you want a school where you are thrown into medical school for the first 2 years?
