what are the pro's and con's of each of these schools.I have been accepted to both of the schools and am really confused.
Any help is really appreciated.
thanks.

I would only consider coming here if you are an IL resident. I haven't actually looked at the numbers, but OOS tuition at UIC is one of the highest in the country and is NOT worth it when you can graduate in 3 years at another school and most likely save yourself a LOT of money in the long-term.

UIC tuition is sky high if you're out of state. And you actually have to be an Illinois resident (no getting around that) for the purpose of in state tuition.

you can always marry an IL resident to get IL residency. Instant instate status....

so now you just gotta romance a fellow resident D1.

COST is a HUGE consideration. No matter where you go if you graduate you will be a doctor. I would say in order of importance consider:
1.) Cost - you will be paying back loans and interest for many years to come. It has a huge impact.
2.) Patient Pool - The more pateints in the system or waiting for treatment the better. It increases your opportunity for learning and practicing your skills
3.) Location - soemtimes being close to family is important. Sometimes a school will hold a regional board exam you are interested in making the process easier for you.
Good Luck!😀

Thank you all for your input.I am an international trained dentist and I decided on going to UOP.Tuition alone will cost me 180K, Living expenses may be around 40K. That is definetly a lot, but, I have my family in SF,so I think its gonna be worth.

You should go to UoP, I haven't ever been to UIC and I actually just realized that UIC has a dental school but all I have to say is that UOP is a better school

wow welcome to the boards....

So UoP is a better school? damn it! I wish you were hear 8 months ago! Then I wouldn't have wasted all this time applying to other schools instead of UoP.

You really are going to say that UoP is better, when you haven't even been to UIC? Wouldn't it be better to say that UoP is a better school FOR YOU! School choice is a personal matter. There aren't concrete rules or rankings, so please take your superiority complex someplace else.

I actually was in Chicago one time, I was going to go to Bulls game but it was cancelled because it was too windy. But seriously UoP is way better because of the weather, I mean chicago is suppose to be a cool town but who wants to put on 10 layers of clothes just to get the newspaper. 😎

UoP. It's a great school !

How does UIC compare to other dental schools? Do a lot of their students specialize?

^ Can anyone shed some light on UIC?

crazy4clana How does UIC compare to other dental schools? Do a lot of their students specialize?

UIC is like every dental school, there are positive and negative aspects. The best aspect is starting to work in clinic/ see your own patients during your D2 year and the abundance of patients

Out of the current 4th year class of 68 students 4 are going into Ortho, 2 Endo, 2 Pedo, and I don't believe anyone applied to OS or Perio this year.
