For those of you dental students at schools where they do not accept many out of staters (or even 0)....if you are in the top 5 on an alternate list on an in state list as of right now and all the seats are full (the school that has you waitlisted only sends out the exact amount of seats available...in the past they extended too many acceptances and couldnt take many from the waitlist) how quickly or slowly do you think my status could change? I realize that lots of movement occurs right before school starts especially on out of state waitlists or private school waitlists...but I am hoping it starts moving within the next month or so (April/May)....according to the admission director. Why is April/May a time where a lot of movement occurs? I am #4 on the list at UIC. Some positive news is on 3/23 (1 day after finding out I was waitlisted) two people decided they didnt want to go and I moved from #6 to #4. I do not think this trend will continue and am hoping to move 1-2 spots by the end of April (to me thats fairly optimistic). Any thoughts?

Hey Bulfan,

I was waitlisted too, but I don't know where I stand on the waitlist. According to them, they put me on the waitlist for not taking many science classes. I took all the required and Human Anatomy and Physiology. My stats are similar to yours 20/20/17, sc gpa 3.4, overall 3.1 and I'm an electrical engineer out of UIC. What do you think my number would be on the waitlist?

You never know, your best bet would be to call the school. I think I am ranked 14 or something. They did not give me a reason why I was put on the waitlist, and I was kinda confused why I was put on the waitlist too. I took all the required, anatomy and physiology, cell, biochem, and a few psychobios. My overall is a 3.5 and my sc gpa is a 3.2. My dat is 18/17/17, and Im getting my degree in psychology with a conentration in behavioral neuroscience in three years. ::sigh::good luck to everyone!

Call Ann...312-996-2873. Ask her what # you are on the list and what she thinks your chances are. From what I understand each year 10 or so people turn down their spot after putting down their deposit initially. So, if you are in the top 10 its supposed to be a good thing...problem is nobody knows when someone will drop their spot...which is why I am worried. It could be tomorrow, 2 weeks from tomorrow, or June. Here's what I have learned so far....I may have posted it before...but this year they accepted the exact amount of the class (64) as opposed to last year when they overaccepted. I think it works out in our favor because as soon as someone drops their spot they go to the waitlist which they had to wait about 5 spots to do last year. Last year about 10 dropped their spot but only 5 came off the waitlist. So far two people have come off the waitlist...we shall see. Any UIC students out there who came off the list last year or in years before?

Thanks for the reply. I'll call her as soon as I can and I'll post any new updates too.
