Hey, I received an invite to UIUC today for 2/27. Anyone else hear anything yet?

I've heard nothing yet and am fairly anxious. According to my applicant profile, they received my fall transcript, but it has not been verified and the grades have not been entered.

Also, this ambiguous line appears on the profile "Interview Confirmation Status: No confirmation received" I'm not sure if this means I have been granted an interview and I have not yet responded to them or if there has been no confirmation on the school's part.

UPDATE: While writing this post I received a phone call from my mother. I have an interview scheduled for February 27.

Any suggestions on whether it is better to fly into O'Hare and drive 2.5 hours or fly into Champaign for an extra $100. For insurance reasons, I think I am too young to rent a car.

Does it say this on everyone's page? I only just realized there's a tracking page and mine says the same thing "no confirmation received." Is that an implication I'm getting one, or do they all say it?

I see that message as well. I think I remember seeing that some people already received rejection letters from UIUC, so I'm crossing my fingers that this interview confirmation line (and lack of a rejection letter) is a good sign.... I'm also in California, so I'm also hoping that this another reason why I have not yet received a letter....

I didn't apply there, but isn't this quite funny...the tracking pages, meant to help and keep us informed, serve only to confuse and stress us out. Ha. 😉

Hi all,

So I received an interview at Illinois, which is great of course, but I'm trying to figure out a flight. There seem to be two do-able flight times leaving on the 27th for me to return home. One is at 6 PM, which requires me to kill a lot of time on my own (the day goes until 4, but I have the first interview slot at 8 AM). The other is at 10 AM, which I could probably swing. My worry is when I interviewed at Penn 2 years ago, all the students you talk w/ during the day were actually judging you as a candidate, and helped admissions make their decisions. Do you think it would look bad if I left right after my interview and didn't take a tour or anything? I'm not thrilled that I'm going to have to spend about $500 for only 30 minutes to win them over, so part of me wants to make the most of things, but another part of me doesn't want to be finding stuff to do all day (1 tour and 1 info session won't fill my day).

Any suggestions?

Returning to Rochester, followed by a 1.5 to 2 hour drive back to Ithaca at night, which depending on the weather might not be too pleasant. Hence my preference for an earlier flight. Plus I have to work the next day.

I ran into the car rental prob too, look into the Enterprise rental company.. If you're 21-24, they'll let you rent a car for an extra 10 dollars a day.

I also recommend Enterprise for under 25s. Another thing to check out is whether or not your insurance company has deals with any rental agencies. For example, I found out after renting with Enterprise (which has good rates and only an extra $10 for underage) that my insurance (USAA) has a deal with Budget where I could rent without extra charges.

The car information is good to know. I've talked with a friend who is a first year student at UIUC CVM, however, and she has said that there is shuttle service between the airport, the Holiday Inn, and the university. It seems that if one flies into Willard, a rental might not be needed.

It is much, much easier to fly in to Willard and take a shuttle or cab to the university. The airport is only 4-5 miles from the vet school. A girl that interviewed the same time as me had to literally run out of her interview to drive back to Chicago... while I don't think the admissions committee will judge you on your travel plans, I don't think it's worth the extra stress! Interview day is stressful enough on everyone. Even if it's $100 more, you will spend at least $30 on gas and $40? on a car rental, so you aren't really saving money. Now, if you can find a cheap flight and car rental in to Bloomington, that is only 45 minutes away.

Students that give tours don't have input... at least I've never been asked. (Although if I had an interviewee that was absolutely obnoxious and ridiculous, I might vent to the assistant dean... she is wonderful at listening to us complain.)

Good luck to everyone on the interview... if you can get over your nerves, interview day is actually kind of fun. 🙂

It says...

Interview Confirmation Status: Acceptance confirmed - 2/27/06 from (whatever time your interview is)

I just confirmed my interview last night and it is up there now.

Rather worried about the interview. It's going to be my first one and competition seems very stiff.
