BR Ochem Part I Page 229 11.

I learned that Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy can be employed in reaction rate study

The precondition is that the reactant or product must have a π bond to be UV-active

But the compounds in the passage doesn't have π bond,how can choice D of question 11 be correct?
