Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has been in touch with the Admissions Office at UMass Boston to ask about additional materials? I applied online on November 12 and sent the additional stuff the day after, but my status still isn't updated and everything from letters of recommendation to transcripts are marked as incomplete....Starting to worry a little bit!! 😕 I called the Admissions office but they said to wait a little while longer as they're still updating the system...

I can't comment on UMass directly, but I'm having the same problem with some of my schools too (Georgia State, George Mason, Boston U). When I called them, they said the same thing: wait until the system is updated. I'm worried though! I have this sinking feeling my transcripts and letters are just sitting at the bottom of some pile, never to be seen again...

Same here! Just called BU and got the same answer. My transcripts and GRE scores aren't in their system yet, but the lady on the phone assured me that everything gets date-stamped so I should be fine if I sent everything to them on time. Of course, if anything happened to those items in the mail, I wouldn't be able to find out until way after the application deadline, at which point it's too late to do anything about. So frustrating!

I'm having the same problem with UMass -- and I know the stuff got there because I have delivery confirmation. It's nerve wracking for sure!

Relax. Even if they don't have your materials, they won't know for a little while because they have to sort through everything. I would call back in a week and mention that you wanted to give them enough time to sort through everything, but also wanted to make sure that everything is accounted for, and that if it isn't you will overnight it or fax it.

Yeah, I called all of the places I sent in Dec 1 apps to today. I couldn't even talk to anyone at UMass Boston--there was a recording saying that they weren't taking calls b/c of the number of apps to go through. The woman at U Florida calmed me down, though. She said that b/c of the holiday, they just have sooo much stuff to go through, if you sent it, they have it. And if it turns out something is missing, you just resend it in. Especially if you sent everything in one big envelope (like I did)- she said it's easier to process, and not to worry. 🙂

Re: George Mason, I got an e-mail saying my file was complete yesterday. I take that to mean that everything got there.

To give a little more detail about my conversation with the BU lady, she told me that the admissions department (which sends application materials to the psych department, I guess) is way behind. They've received a lot of stuff that they haven't entered into the system, so a lot of people's applications will look incomplete until admissions gets to them. The lady in the psych department told me to try her again at the end of the week.

Yeah, I tried looking online for BU, but there's nothing. I hate that!! Although, I hate it when the online system isn't updated, either. I'm realllly holding myself back from checking compulsively every 5 minutes.

Is anyone applying to U Maryland? They keep e-mailing me that they don't have my transcript yet, but I sent it with everything else Nov 24, and I have the delivery confirmation (yeah, I'm a little OCPD about everything). I'm sure that they have it- I just wish they'd update the online system!!

Ok so just got an email from UMB saying they're missing EVERYTHING (transcripts, letters, scores, personal statement etc etc). Halfway through the email it says to disregard it if you already sent them, but still! Freaking out!! Every time I call they say they can't check and to just look online! Eeeep! Hi all,

The application process to UMass Boston has been kind of a nightmare, but it looks like I don't need to tell you that. I just received my third notice that everything I sent in (transcript, LOR's, SOP) are still missing, despite every other school I applied to having complete files. They do get an inordinate amount of applications so I imagine they're just busy processing still. I found calling the admissions office pretty unhelpful - they told me I had to check online. Low and behold, still incomplete.

As for BU, my application there has been complete for at least two weeks. Granted, I got my BA and MA there, so maybe I had someone looking out for me or I was quicker to process. Good luck to everyone!

For the question for Maryland - same here. I sent my transcripts in an envelope with all of the other materials, but everything else says complete and that just my transcripts haven't been received! WTF?!

So.. Has anyone heard from U Mass Boston yet? I've been checking online and it still says I'm missing everything (even though, like I said before, I mailed it all before Thanksgiving). I tried calling, and still couldn't get through to anyone. I'm sure it's all there, I'm just a little worried since it's been almost a month!!! 😱

Yup. Same deal here. I sent in everything in one big packet before Thanksgiving and my status is still showing up as incomplete online. I called last week and they just told me to wait and check again since they have a lot of mail to go through. I also have a delivery confirmation receipt so that makes me feel a teeny bit better. I didn't receive any email notifications though regarding my status...a good thing? GAH.

They get so frustrated but seriously, we all paid good money to apply so they're gonna listen to my neurotic non-stop pestering goddamnit, haha.

Soo... I just checked my application again, and it says that everything is complete, which is great, EXCEPT FOR MY STATEMENT OF PURPOSE. I'm 99.99999% positive that I included it in the envelope I sent, but with all the Dec 1 deadlines, there's always the possibility that I forgot to print it out. Anyone else have this issue?? AHHHHH 😱😱

I just checked my status -- it shows that one letter was recieved, but that nothing else was. This concerns me because the status date for that letter is 12/14, which means they updated some things on that date! Argh. Has anyone had any luck with calling them?

That makes me feel a little better. Maybe they just haven't processed everything (i.e. my SOP and the rest of your stuff). I'm going to call tomorrow and I'll post as soon as I talk to someone.

I checked my status online today and everything is still incomplete except for my official GRE scores, which were updated on 12/14 and 12/16. Hopefully GRE scores are processed in a different manner than the other stuff...

When I asked her about just my SOP being listed as incomplete she said that if all my documents were together then it should all should have been updated and say complete. I guess that means I forgot to include it??

How did I do that?? And what do I do now?? Is there anything I can do?? I mean, it's Dec 17, I can't even send another one, can I??

I would send another copy asap and also let the office know that you are (if you haven't already told the lady you spoke with already). It'll work out!

First, she may be wrong. Who knows--clearly they are all over the place.

Second, I would go ahead and send it again. You also never know if they will still accept it if it arrives in the mail!

Thanks, I sent a copy via FedEx overnight (you can upload a doc and have them print and mail it!!). It was $20, but worth it, I think. Hopefully it will be ok. I guess I wasn't going to make it out of this process without at least one faux pas. 🙁

So, for future reference:

I e-mailed the office to let them know that I was sending a copy, and the woman said that I could just send it to her in an e-mail and she'd add it to my file. Phew.

Too bad that when I tried to cancel my order with FedEx, it had already been delivered (an hour after I ordered it!)

well... I think this will make you feel better, since it made me feel better (and laugh a little) I received an invite from a school December 18th (Dec 1st deadline) then just on Saturday got the confirmation from the grad school by mail that my application was complete 🙂. Remember holiday mail takes a bit of time, and in general trying to handle anywhere from 100 to 400 applications isnt easy!

I also got an email from them last week saying that everything was missing. After I had my mini heart attack, I called the number in the email and was so surprised to reach a live human being within a couple of rings that I was actually speechless for a couple of seconds. 😛

I then explained my situation and told her that I had submitted everything before the Thanksgiving holidays (i.e. what was going on?!). She told me that their system had been down and that they were still sorting through mail from the first couple weeks of November, so just keep checking online.

I guess I felt a teeny bit better? *shrug*

I would call ETS and have them send another copy over with both scores just in case, especially since you can't get in contact with anyone at the department. I'm thinking maybe there was a mix-up but you can never be sure.

They are STILL listing my application as incomplete (missing everything but my GRE scores). I don't really want to call again, since they seemed kind of irritated last time I did, but I know my packet of supplemental materials was delivered there, so it's kind of making me nervous.

i just got ANOTHER email from them saying my application was still missing 2 items-- one of them which I KNOW was in the packet with my other materials, and the other of which is a transcript which still has not been released because i just took the class last semester! i called and they said they are still working through materials!!
should I email my POI and let him know what is going on? I am tempted-- I don't want to get thrown out just because they didn't get my stuff.

I just checked mine and it is finally listed as complete (I don't know when it got this status, as I got busy with other apps and forgot to check for a while).

I turned mine in very close to the deadline, and since they were working through them chronologically, my guess is that they should be done with all of them by now. I'd call the admissions office and see what you can do.
