Just got letter from UMass today asking to write a 100 word essay expressing why I'm interested in their program. Did anyone else get this?

Yeah, got it about a week or so ago. Apparently they do it every year.

what if you are not? 😕.

Should I write an assay why I am not interested in their program but applying there anyway because such is the derm application process, and you have to pretty much apply everywhere?

So my question is, does everyone get this email? or is it only to people who they don't seriously think would come to their program?

Penn has something on their website you have to fill out. IIRC, Ohio State made you do something extra. Don't forget SUNY downstate which, as long as it didn't change this year, is paper app only...No ERAS.

Have fun guys and gals. I stop and think at least once a week how glad I am I don't have to go through it again. But keep your spirits up. 👍

Penn's questionnaire asks for your "NRMP number." Is that just your AAMC ID #? I'm registered with the NRMP but I don't see a specific ID number unique to that.

I had the same question

Is this notice for everybody or just for certain people? Just curious...

I was wondering about that mysterious SUNY Brooklyn that I couldn't find anywhere.

This is so silly. How do you get your school to send the Dean's letter to them? My school never even mentioned programs that were outside of ERAS, I guess they would know how to handle it though? This just seems like a bunch of trouble, not to mention having all your letter writers send their letters to them separately, when it's hard enough even trying to get them to submit their letters to ERAS.

I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world if I just didn't apply there. I'm not from anywhere near there so I doubt they'd even interview me. But I guess a lot of people make the same decision so they probably get a lot less applications 🙄
