Hey gang! I'm from New England (Mass) and want to stay close to home for residency. Obviously, I'm applying to all the Boston ones. Can anyone give me the rundown on UMass? I did search for stuff, but would like more up to date reviews if possible. Specifically, this is what I'm looking for.

(1) Is it highly respected in the psych world?
(2) Will training there open doors? Close doors?
(3) Do they work you to death, is it cush, or somewhere in between?
(4) Do they terminate residents often?
(5) How are their didactics?

If anyone has insight into the fellowships, that'd be great too. I'm interested in forensics right now, but I haven't ruled out C/L and neuropsych piques my interest. Thanks!

Sheldon Benjamin, U Mass' Program Director (former? I thought I heard that he might be transitioning, he's still listed as PD...he's also still with the dept as a Vice Chair of Education, so I'm sure if they are transitioning it will be silky smooth) is one of the top 5 PDs in the country, in my opinion. Very active in residency education circles and very highly regarded.

No decent residency program will close any doors for you. The doors you open will be up to you.
Nor do residencies go around terminating residents for the sheer joy of terminating them. This isn't surgery in the 1970s.

Third hand information, but what I was told when applying was "great program that's unfortunately in Worchester"
