I had my interview on Dec 1 and was put on hold (found out over the phone). I do not think my interviewer was fair. She had to go see a patient in the middle of the interview (a pshyciatric one) and this interrupted my thought process frequently. I think my interview is probably what got me the hold. I don't know whether I should let the adcoms know about this or to Dean Foxwell... My stats are good so I think it might be the interview.

I personally do not think that you should ask the adcom to reconsider you because of your interview situation because 1) your interviewer is a doctor and their patients come first 2)being able to think off your feet and in unexpected circumstances is a quality that is necessary for medicine. A better approach would be to ask why you were put on hold and try to update or remedy the problem with your application.

I suppose you could contact Dr. Foxwell by mail or email and say: you regret that you were put on hold because you really love the school b/c of x,y,z; you felt like you didn't click well with one of your interviews and you think this may have something to do with the committee's decision; request another interview (or at least state that you are happy to come in for another one), in the hope that this additional interview can be considered by the committee when it again reviews your file. The way I see it, Dr. Foxwell can only say no, and even if he does, I'm sure he will take your email/letter as a sign of your interest in UMD and your desire to be admitted. In other words, it's a win-win situation. Good luck.

So your interviewer left once to see a patient? Or multiple times? If it was only once, I don't know if the AdCom will really take you seriously.

As ohplease and starfruit said, sending an update letter is a good idea cause it will show that you are still interested.

You might also want to think about how strong is your application is. Is there anything you can do between now and May to strengthen your application (and thereby get you off the waitlist)? Calling Dr. Foxwell might be a good idea.... get an idea of what he thinks you could improve on.

Good luck :luck: :luck:

Tinkerbelle's idea of asking the Dean if there's any way you can strengthen your application is probably the best approach. I think it's a huge mistake to try and lay blame on the interviewer -- for all you know this is an adcom member. And maybe your second interviewer's scoring matched or was worse than this one's -- you simply don't know. I also note that while I've never had an interviewer actually leave the room during an interview, I've certainly had interviews where the interviewer had to take a phone call, or return a beeper call; you just have to take it in stride -- it's part of the game.

Yes. Is there any reason other than the interviewer walking out once or twice that you felt she was "unfair"? One of my interviews was in the ER at the VA hospital, and people from the department were walking in and out of the interview room what seemed like every 10 minutes or so. Granted, this is different, and perhaps less distracting, than your interviewer walking in and out. But perhaps it is best not to mention specifically why you thought the interview went poorly - just that you didn't "click"

Just make sure that, whether you write or call Dr. Foxwell, you are even-keeled and gracious. In other words, don't let your frustration about the situation shine through. Let us know how it all works out.

When I interviewed at NJMS my interviewer showed up late, told me what my opinions were, and left halfway through for coffee because he was falling asleep. For some reason I still was accepted and plan on attending. That being said they may have many competitive applicants who are also on the waitlist. Wait until May to start freaking out.

hey... i bet we had the same interviewer starfruit! Did you have this really cool ER doc (white & tall)? He was such a great interviewer. And yeah, I had people walking in during my interview as well. It was great though... they would make fun of my interviewer

That's funny, tinkerbelle. 🙂 I bet it was the same guy. Yeah, I think one person walked in to retrieve a pastry or something that was sitting on the counter! The interruptions almost made the interview more laid back, though, in some ways.
