I took the bench prepratory course(july 28th-aug 1).it was a 5 day course and everything was supplied to us(Burs, teeth, typhodont).only typodont had to be returned while we kept the rest of stuff.First day we were given lectures and rest of four days we were drilling.(class 2 amalgam, class 3 composite, crown prepration, surveyor use and designing of RPD.).All the faculty were helping us throughout the day.And we got a extra day to practice on oct 10th.That too really helped us in improving our skills and we had Dr Robert Nack with us throughout the day.Special thanx to him.Has anyone applied for UMDNJ? I would like to know the stats of the students who are applying for UMDNJ?
Does anyone have the idea about the bench preparation course given by UMDNJ?

Hi Everyone,
I was attending The Bench Test Preparatory Course at UMDNJ this summer. The price was high for me, but I can tell you, it's worth every penny.
This was a one week course ( July 28- August 1 ) + one additional day in October to practice.
The first day was a lecture day, they gave us some materials to study, dvd, gradesheets for every procedure that might be on the Bench Exam.
We also received the big boxes with new sets/kits of burs ( amalgam prep&finishing kit, composit p&f kit, partial denture prep set, diamond&veneer kit + many more ), the typodonts with many extra ivorine teeth. We had to return the typodonts at the end of the Course, but we kept all extra ivorine teeth + teeth we were working on.
For the rest of the week we were practising ( amalgam/composit preps/fillings, crowns preps, temp crowns ), designing the RPD.
Our teachers; Dr. Dipede, Dr. Marder, Dr. Nack, Dr. Varghese, were aways with us, helping, answering our questions, showing us their "little tricks".
During this Course I learned what they might expect from us on the Bench test, I improved my skills, I feel well preparedfor the Bench Test.
It doesn't matter how old and experienced you are, there is always something new to learn.

hi friends,
i do not think course at UMDNJ is worth it. it invovles a lot money & instructors are not from admission poll.. i think good to send typodont to dr.duggan in california, he is charging just $10 for critic. he also gives DVD of prep. i have taken both courses, i think dr.duggan is the best. feel free to contact me for any help. i am on east coast. i am ready to critic prep for just $2. i will give DVD also.
good luck

Hi !
The price is $5000, more informations/details regarding this course you can find on the UMDNJ website. I think UMDNJ is the only place on the East Coast, where you can get the bench test preparatory course.
I 've heard about another place, in California, but.....this was not at the Dental School, ....they wouldn't supply you with anything ( it means that you have to buy: ivorine teeth, typodont, manikin, burs, handpieces, all instruments and materials),....it was more time cosuming/wasting,... if you weren't from California, you would spend a lot money on hotel/living close to that place.
