Hey fellow classmates! I'm looking forward to meeting you all! Have you started looking at places to live yet, financial aid packages, and what to do about collecting teeth (if we need to?)?

If you're going to UMDNJ, make a post, and let's form a network!

🙂

Hey guys, UMDNJ is one of my top schools on my list (applying this upcoming June)...for those accepted, any tips or pointers you wanna give a future applicant? I really would like to be in Jersey the next four years of my life, and think their dental school is awesome. Thanks!

Has anyone asked the admissions comittee what's the minimum fall grade they wanna see for those who got accepted? Let me know if anyone knows.

If you are really interested in UMDNJ, look into their "Gateway to Dentisry" program: http://dentalschool.umdnj.edu/gateway.htm. I did it and it was amazing!

I think I will do this, the May one. Anyone know of any correlation between getting into their school and doing the program, I'm sure it comes up at alot of interviews huh?

UMDNJ says there is no correlation whatsoever, but I heard that that's BS. They love Gateway students. It doesn't guarentee that if you do Gateway you'll get into UMDNJ but it gives you a better shot over an applicant that has comparable stats and has not done the Gateway program.

BTW, I'm doing it January 3rd. 😀

Dexadental,
Gateway was great...if you want to do it you better apply ASAP cause they get filled up really fast! It definitely gives you a better chance of getting in cause they already know you (especially if you leave a positive impression).

Hi!
Congrats on getting into UMDNJ and dental school in general. Are you a jersey resident? my aim sn is japolloniac09, too, if you want to chat.
Jen

I will be at gateway jan 3rd too!!!

i know you told me before. lol we'll chill togetha =)

Do you think it be possible to get in for the January session still? They say they're full, but someone always cancels...
If I can't do that, I'll do May.

Well I heard a lot of people apply so they might have like a waitlist going. So i don't think you will be able to get in for January. But you can call the program administrator and see what your chances are.

Ok, Just in case people want to know I'm gonna answer my own question because I called them today and I found out. UMDNJ wants B or better in all pre-req's after the acceptance. As far as all the other classes that you have, as long as you bring them the degree by the time you enter the school, you'll be ok. That's exactly what ADcom lady said. ^^

At the same time, if anyone cares, I'm starting a list of UMDNJ 2009ers.
Adding me.

I'm sending my deposit in next week!

For all of you who have heard back from UMDNJ, how long after you had sent all final information did you hear for an interview invite? I submitted the last of info (DAT) scores around Nov. 15 and haven't really heard anything back. I have heard from Columbia, Maryland, and Connecticut, but nothing from my own state school. A little worried I guess.

Thanks for input

Your application was probably sent to the shredder, just like mine.

I called yesterday and I'm still in review from August (when they received my application) :scared:

Don't worry... I had all my stuff in sometime in June/July... and I did not hear until near the end of September for an interview.
P.S. I strongly doubt ANYONE'S application (esp someone on SDN) is in the shredder! Believe me, if it was, you'd know! Cheer up! :luck:

Don't worry about your grades, make sure you pass all of em, that's the key, that's what adcom lady said. She said, "it doesn't necessary mean that you should do bad, but we don't really care if it's not a pre-req course".

sent in my deposit yesterday, they should of received it today. anyone receive any scholarships from UMDNJ? or do they tell you when you get that financial aid package in the mail?

I didnt get any scholarships from them, but they told me that the award letter for financial aid will be sent to us after the Fafsa and all the other financial aids are processed.

academic scholarships are sent with the acceptance letters, im not sure about other scholarships? then again, i would imagine if you haven't received an academic scholarship, it doesnt mean that you ultimately won't get one

cya!

when I send in the deposit do i send in the residency papers as well? I am a cali resident and am trying to gain residency. Do i wait to send it in after i gain residency?

i sent in the residency papers with the deposit. I made a copy of my NY state license and got it notarized. I will try and gain residency, hopefully it will all work out.

i was wondering about that... i was really hoping to recieve an academic scholarship. so you're saying that it would have been in that big acceptance envelope? sigh 🙁

Anyways, is anyone here annoyed about the DVD curriculum? not that i mind studying off a screen - i'm used to it by now - but i REALLY don't want to have to buy another laptop, as i have a perfectly functional one already, especially not a dell one (i love my iBook, and it loves me... macs are the way to go 👍 ).

When I heard that purchasing a lap top at most dental schools is mendatory, I decided not to buy one on my own. That's the one and only reason why I don't have a stinkin lap top. Yeah I feel you on getting annoyed with that cause If I had a choice, I would buy me a iBook as well and take it to school with me and use that instead.

Ok Guys, I have a question. When you guys made the 1000 dollar depost, did you guys turn in the residency documents along with it? I was reading through this and it seems like some of this stuff like (vehicle registration under your name, NJ drivers licence, proof of long term Lease) must be obtained in New Jersey. If you guys didn't, when are you guys planning on filing all of the above documents? Just curious. Also, What are your plans as far as housing is concerned, like when are you going to start looking for them and how?

I am thinking maybe I'm going to go to Jersey around late May (when my schools ends) and find me a place there. Do you think that's too late? Maybe i wasn't paying attention during the whole speech made by the financial aide lady, but I was wondering if there was someone that I could call in the school to ask them about the whole housing situation. Let me know where you guys are at with this. Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing about the residency documents. I need to send them in later because i'm not a Jersey resident yet.

From what I remember.... It takes just a couple of weeks for NJDS to recognize you as a resident. Even if you send in your residency papers saying your a non-NJ res, you will still get the instate tuition when you start school (assuming that you become a NJ res at some point before school starts).

Also, if anyone has any questions regarding some towns to look at for housing, let me know.

I am sending in my deposit, notarized license etc (I have to read through the rest of the stuff again... I remember there being other stuff that was needed as well) on January 4th. 🙂 Definitely saving myself a spot at this school!

-good job

-for the laptop part that was discussed above, i believe we get IBM Thinkpad T42's which are top of the line. I might be wrong but this is what one of the students told me during my interview. best of luck people.

I spoke to the woman who is in charge of granting (for lack of a better word) residency...she said all we have to do is bring in the paperwork sent with the acceptance package, along with whatever is required, before (or maybe even during) orientation. She also said she has never turned down anyone's request for residency if the correct paperwork was provided, so don't stress.

Congrats on your acceptances. See you at UMDNJ!

Add my name to the list for UMDNJ Class of 2009: Holden21 (Danielle) I mailed in my deposit today.
Anybody have any thoughts re: apartment/house hunting??

I sent my deposit in today... (certified mail haha) 🙂

My deposit is sent in!

When do you think we have to start looking for housing??

probably spring break

does anyone know how many spots were actually filled for the upcoming year. i dont have my interview until feb. 18 and wanted to know my chances.

I would say...if you have an interview coming up...you are still in the running 🙂 I think they have 70-80 seats if I remember correctly?

Hey guys...I'll definetly be up in Jersey with you guys for the next 4 years! Can't wait to meet all of you! 🙂

Add me to the list - I think I'm hopping on board, all IBM reservations notwithstanding 😀 .

Just a residency question - if I am planning on staying with s relative in NJ, and thus saving myself a rather hefty chunk of cash in rent, how do I go about obtaining residency? I can get the NJ lisence no problem, but everything else is a bit of an issue. And what is the name and contact info of the whole residency-determining person at UMDNJ?
