  1. Pre-Dental
okay i got my acceptance letter today for a masters in biomedical sciences. Anyone do this program with good things to say about it? More specifically i'm looking for any people who matriculated straight into dental/medical school. woo-hoo at least i have SOMEWHERE to go! 😀

Hey sillygirl if u done mind could u share your stats andwhen u applied? I just applied this week. Also r u predent or premed? I saw that there are some linkage programs to themed school but found nothing on dental school

Sillygirl, I am in it right now and will matriculating into med school this fall (and I have good things to say about it). Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions! 🙂

hey caligurl did u make special arrangements with the school? Do u know if any predents in the program are matriculating into the umdnj dental school? Thanks

Sure no prob. I'm a predent and I scored in the 95% on the DAT. I forgot my scores exactly but if you search my old posts i posted it previously already. Unfortunately my GPA was 2.96 when I graduated. I took fall quarter of postbacc classes at a local state school with A's in molecular bio, human physiology and neurosience which i think put me over a 3.0. =) Good luck to you toothfareez

thank u sillygirl...also when did u apply to the Mbs program?

i think i was complete like last week

Hey Tooth,

I did not make special arrangements with the school. However, the UMDNJ schools (New Jersey Med, Robert Wood Johnson, New Jersey Dental, etc), look favorably upon applicants from the affiliated UMDNJ graduate programs. So, I wouldn't necessarily call the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences a true linkage program, but if the aforementioned schools receive applicants from graduate students from various programs, they favor the UMDNJ kids hands down.

I do not know anyone personally that went from the graduate program to NJ Dental, but I know New Jersey Dental School takes graduate students if you do exceptionally well. If you are considering doing the graduate program at UMDNJ in an attempt to get into dental school in NJ, I would definitely call the NJDS admissions office and make an appointment. Bring your undergrad transcript, a copy of your DAT scores, a resume, what classes you plan to take at the graduate school, etc, so they can go over your strengths/weaknesses as an applicant. Let them know who you are and keep in contact with them. Nothing rubs admissions directors the wrong way at UMDNJ than UMDNJ grad students who apply to the professional schools and have never "shown face" to admissions. Just a hint! :luck:

I applied to BU and VCU as well. I know that I'm complete at BU (concentration oral health) right now and they're looking over my application. VCU has been a little slow. One minute they have 3 lor and the other minute they're missing 2. So yah i'm leaning towards UMDNJ newark mostly because of the cost and program.. They'll let you take dental physiology and dental biochemistry with the dental school!! sounds exciting!

thanks cali for the heads up about the neighborhood and the advice!😉

I actually received my acceptance letter from UMDNJ about a week ago as well and am trying to find more information about the school. I've looked through the forums and haven't been able to find too much written by graduates of the program who have directly entered into medical school, and more importantly, what their stats were in undergrad and through the program. I keep hearing that the stats at UMDNJ are pretty good, the school just states that if you do well, you'll be able to get into a few medical schools . but IS there anyone out there that's graduated from UMDNJ and gotten into medical/dental school that'd like to share their stats/info/experience with us?

Caliprincess totally rocked the program and is starting med school in the fall!! She's my hero! 😛

The dealine for UMDNJ is June 1st you can call them at
973-972-4511...... try BUMAMS as well..... I don't know when the deadline is but the have a conc in Oral biology/health....I applied to these 2 and VCU....lemme know if u have any questions I can ans wish u all the best

u don't HAVE to do a thesis for UMDNJ huh?

Nope! You can just take 30 credits. And I know someone who is finishing her credits in california (where she's from) instead of at NJ. *shrug* i don't know how that worked out

How doable is it to do 30 units in 1 yr while getting a good gpa?

From my understanding its tuff... But definately doable... The Best advice I can give is DO NOT go to Rosalind Franklin University BMS program in Chicago!!! You take almost all the first year medical school classes... It is really tuff... This program was not made for pre-dents or even for pre-meds that don't want to got to Rosalind Franklin Medical School... It is unorganized and expensive... If you or anyone you know is applying don't do it or tell them not to!!! PM me if anyone has questions about the nuances of these kinds of programs for pre-dents... Goodluck

Did any one get into the Biomed program in stratford? If so what are your plans for housing?

For current students, how is the program? And what are the chances of going directly to the umdnj all/ost school of medicine?

I'm considering the pre-med route at the Newark campus. My impression is that the program, although quite time-consuming and rigorous, does not require the same kind of effort as a more typical SMP, such as BU MAMS or Drexel IMS, mainly because it doesn't offer as many medical courses. So, unlike these other programs, this program would afford me more time to gain clinical and research experience on the side. Is this correct? Can any current/former students chime in? thanks.

any females looking for a roommate/housing? I found nice places but need a roommate...PM me

Hello, I applied pretty late (early jun) but I got accept to the Biomed program at Stratford. Now, I'm looking for roommates, housing, and the like. If anyone else is looking, shoot me a PM.

If anyone has questions regarding the UMDNJ-Stratford program or graduate programs in general, please feel free to PM me. To those that have PMed me in the last few weeks and are waiting for a response, I am working on those right now. I apologize, but I have been MIA for a while. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! 🙂

Hi All! I just came across this thread and thought I'd bump it since some of you by this time are probably at UMDNJ and just thought I'd ask how you liked the program! I just applied and am curious about your opinions thanks 🙂
