Hey Y'all,

Does anyone know anything about the RWJ-UMDNJ program? Compared to Sinai or Einstein? Malignancy?

Although I can't speak for the NY programs I can speak for RWJ.

The program is definitely not malignant. The program has a great director who always advocates for his residents. The residents expect professionalism from each other and their medical students, but that doesn't get in the way of their comradery. There are 1 or 2 attendings who are "intense" shall we say. But honestly they are interested in teaching. The are not malignant they simply expect more. And those residents who deliver, garner the respect of the attending. Those residents unprepared (prelims - non categorical) do not. The attending and PD make sure that no opportunity is missed for teaching. Ancillary services are very good. You might have to draw an occasional stat blood.

I should disclose that I am a RWJ student who intends to go into Gsurg. I completed my clerkship at the main hospital in New Brunswick.
Any specific questions?

Have the residents ever had any trouble getting into fellowships as far you know? How is NB as a town to live in?

I should say that I am a single guy and going to a residency program where everyone is married... might not be the best fit. that's all.

All of the chiefs from last year were able to enter the fellowship they desired. That information can be asked when you interview. I remember CT in chicago, Trauma at UPENN, Vascular at RWJ, and I don't remember the other 2.

As for being single many of my senior residents were single. I would also run into them when I went out. RWJ is 1 block away from Rutgers College Campus. New Brunswick contains Rutgers University. There are some married residents.
I mainly remember the residents hanging out together. NYC is also 55min by train, the station is 1 block from the hospital.

Its not NY but it has its own flavor.

Anything more recent about the RWJ program? I'm interviewing soon and would like to get the scoop. How's New Brunswick?
