I got an interview invite for UMDNJ. Could anyone who interviewed there this cycle give me some feedback on the interview format or share your overall experience? I did do a search but I failed to find many recent threads. Any advice would be great! I am so excited because this is my number one choice. 🙂

Hey Alegna86!

I interviewed at UMDNJ on Oct. 15th. If I remember correctly, the UMDNJ interview invite letter says that the day starts at 8:30am, but make sure to come by 8:00am because you get to talk to the UMDNJ students between 8:00am-8:30am (and they get an adcom vote). At 8:30am the different interviewers come in one-by-one and call out the name of their interviewee. My interview lasted around an hour, but most interviews are around 20-30minutes (I just really like to talk a lot lol). After the interview Dr. Chaviano gives an informative presentation about the school; then there is a presentation about financial aid; you then go on a tour of the school. The day pretty much ends before lunch.
My overall experience was great! My interviewer and I talked about everything from my DAT study methods, to a research paper that I wrote about prostitutes and pornography, to the ethicality of dentists administering Botox to patients lol.
Basically, don’t fret, be yourself and you’ll do great! 🙂

Hey Mazmel, thanks for sharing your experience with me! I will definitely arrive early because I would like an opportunity to talk to the students. Do you mind telling me who you interviewed with and what types of questions they asked you? It really seems like such an amazing school with amazing faculty and I can't wait!!🙂

Not sure about January. I got the invite for this week via phone call. I think I will be getting the email with all the info tomorrow.

the questions to the the open-file interview were mostly the usual ones like "why dentistry?" etc. Regular conversation took us to new topics. Good luck! 👍

Do you guys recommend that I bring anything with me to the interview? I looked in various interview threads and some have recommended to bring a briefcase or a padfolio. I was just going to bring my purse. What do you guys suggest?
