I'm not sure about the stats- on their site they have a graphs showing 270 this of the graduates since 1997-2003
36 to UMDNJ, 9 other MD , 9 Osteo and then about 50 did other things like teach, biotech company and PhD... I don't know, but I'm not terribly impressed with those stats.
The way it's written is somewhat confusing. I still can't make complete sense of how it all adds up from the description and the graphs, but I do know this:
***270 have not graduated***
231 students have *enrolled* in the program since 1997. Only 73 have completed the program. The denominator should be 73, not 270. I don't know the exact stats, but rest assured that the success rate is better than 54/270.
34 out of 73 matriculated at UMDNJ-NJMS and it looks like at least 8 more went on to other MD schools and 8 went on to DO schools. Also, keep in mind that the MS in Biomedical Sciences program is not solely a premedical program.
Let's try and make a hypothetical success rate for kicks:
-Let's say that out of the 73, 15 were not MD applicants. So let's make the total number of US pre-allo applicants 58
-Let's say that out of the 8 other MD schools, 4 are foreign and 4 are US schools
-This would give you 34 NJMS matriculants (as stated in the website) + 4 other US MD matriculants for a total of at least 38 US MD-only matriculants
-This would give you at least a 65% acceptance rate for US allo schools alone (keep in mind these numbers wouldn't even account for applicants who were accepted at US MD schools, but matriculated at DO schools like UMDNJ-SOM, so the percentage would probably even be a little higher)
-This would give you at least an 86% acceptance rate for US allo + US osteo + foreign allo
Again this is hypothetical, so the actual percentages may be lower or higher. I don't know, but suffice it to say that the success rate is much better than 20%
