Hey everyone,

I'm just a tad confused about the UMDNJ Programs. I know they have three, at Piscataway, Newark and Camden. I understood Piscataway was the main program. I also heard good things about Piscataway/Camden so applied to both and thus far have an interview at Piscataway.

Now Newark has kind of popped up. What is its reputation? What is the difference between the three programs? I'm debating whether or not I should apply to Newark given its proximity to NYC.

just to confuse you more, they also have stratford. but that might just be osteopathic programs ... not sure though.

Having talked to those folks for a good 10 minutes at a recent Philly residency fair, I can tell you that they are double boarded for training both MDs and DOs, and their 3 residency spots are available to either persuation. The MDs have to fill out a separate (and I believe non-ERAS) application, though.

j802002, I actually go to Newark-UMDNJ, currently a fourth year med student. PM me with any questions and i will be glad to answer them.

I'm a resident in the Camden program.

The Camden program is further divided into Camden & Atlantic City. I'm in the AC branch, but I'm at Camden once a week.

I also went to college @ Rutgers--right next to Piscataway.

I'd first off take the above offer and talk to the resident for advice.

You can PM me about the Camden program.

Aside from the programs--you also want to consider the living situations. Newark isn't safe. Its not a nice area. However you can live outside Newark--commute in, and NYC is by you. Cost of living in North Jersey is expensive.

Piscataway--still close to NYC. More surburban.

Camden--not a nice area either.

Atlantic City: although AC is of course an urban environment, the immediate areas are very rural. Nice tourist town and in between several big cities--Philadelphia, NYC & Baltimore--though NYC & Baltimore are just over 2 hrs a way.
