UMDNJ-SOM waitlist
Started by cyclegirl
If you're on the waitlist, then they want to accept you, they just don't have room right now. I'm pretty sure there will be some waitlist movement, because at the accepted students day there were quite a few people (myself included) who weren't absolutely sure that they were going to attend yet.
Keep your chin up, send updates and letters of intent/interest, make sure they know that you really want to attend.
Good luck!

I hate to be a party-pooper but one person withdrawing will not move the waitlist. The schools generally have an accurate estimate from years past of how many people usually withdraw and accept that number more to the class than the actual class size. I am sure there is a buffer and that is when the waitlist is called. That doesn't mean to give up hope because you can't tell what kind of movement there will be this year, maybe this year's applicants are more interested in Florida weather in general, in which case NSU and Miami will probably have no movement in their waitlist and UMDNJ may have a lot. Maybe this year the NY schools were conservative on their acceptances and many applicants from all those schools went elsewhere in which case there may be a lot of movement. Good luck and don't give up hope

Geez Nate, first you convince someone in the osteo forum to go to SOM over NYCOM, and now this...admit it, you just hate us waitlistees.
Kidding of course. Yes, with SOM being a state school with an extremely small class size and lower tuition than almost any alternative, realism would lead one to believe that there isn't much movement. The hope is always there, but as you mentioned in another thread, no matter where you end up, you can't really go wrong.
I'm rooting for you guys, just trying to be accurate and realistic. I still think UMDNJ is the best

It couldn't hurt to ask.
I am not sure about transfers at UMDNJ but most schools won't accept transfers without serious extenuating circumstances. Dont give up yet, waitlist movement should start soon across all schools MD and DO.
I spoke to Paula today about my status on the waitlist. She said that they have not begun to take students from the waitlist. She said that once the atrition begins they will rank waitlistees. The process apparently goes as follows: When a student withdraws their acceptance, the admissions committee reviews the waitlistees and tries to replace the withdrawn applicant with an applicant of similar stature (i.e. MCAT, GPA, Clinical Experience, etc). So that's the deal as of right now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the whole situation. Hopefully I'll know before I start orientation at another school.
