Just wondering if anyone had information on the chances of getting accepted off of the waitlist and if UMDNJ used a priority list? Anyone out there that has been accepted from the waiting list?

If you're on the waitlist, then they want to accept you, they just don't have room right now. I'm pretty sure there will be some waitlist movement, because at the accepted students day there were quite a few people (myself included) who weren't absolutely sure that they were going to attend yet.

Keep your chin up, send updates and letters of intent/interest, make sure they know that you really want to attend.

Good luck! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Oh, and as far as I know, there's no priority list or anything like that, if you're on the waitlist you're on the waitlist. But you should call the office to get more info; the staff is really friendly as I'm sure you know!

I'm on the waitlist also...I sent them another letter stating my continued interest today. I really want to go there, and I'm really trying to avoid the massive PCOM deposit due in less than a week :scared:

I love being on the wailist at my number one choice. Who else is with me?? :scared:

3 more days until 5/15, hopefully then we'll see some movement off of this crazy ride.

I know for a fact that the waitlist has a top ten designation and then the rest of the list. I also know for a fact that all of the top ten from 2004 were NOT pulled off the list. Good luck!

I will be withdrawing soon from UMDNJ-SOM within today/tom'w. Good luck to you all. Just thought it would help you to know that the waitlist will at least move one spot.

I hate to be a party-pooper but one person withdrawing will not move the waitlist. The schools generally have an accurate estimate from years past of how many people usually withdraw and accept that number more to the class than the actual class size. I am sure there is a buffer and that is when the waitlist is called. That doesn't mean to give up hope because you can't tell what kind of movement there will be this year, maybe this year's applicants are more interested in Florida weather in general, in which case NSU and Miami will probably have no movement in their waitlist and UMDNJ may have a lot. Maybe this year the NY schools were conservative on their acceptances and many applicants from all those schools went elsewhere in which case there may be a lot of movement. Good luck and don't give up hope

Geez Nate, first you convince someone in the osteo forum to go to SOM over NYCOM, and now this...admit it, you just hate us waitlistees.

Kidding of course. Yes, with SOM being a state school with an extremely small class size and lower tuition than almost any alternative, realism would lead one to believe that there isn't much movement. The hope is always there, but as you mentioned in another thread, no matter where you end up, you can't really go wrong.

If you call them will they tell you if you are in the top ten?

It couldn't hurt to ask.

When you get your waitlist letter in the mail it specifically says that you are one of the top 10 ten candidates on the waitlist.

Did you know that because you got a letter saying you were one of the top ten or how do you know that?

Another waitlister here :scared: 🙄

Hey Nate, do u know how UMDNJ feels about transfer students. Im thinking that if I dont get in (im trying to be realistic) that maybe I can transfer next year

I am not sure about transfers at UMDNJ but most schools won't accept transfers without serious extenuating circumstances. Don’t give up yet, waitlist movement should start soon across all schools MD and DO.

That was my situation last year. They will not tell you where you are in hte top 10, only that you are in the top 10 of alt. candidates.

I spoke to Paula today about my status on the waitlist. She said that they have not begun to take students from the waitlist. She said that once the atrition begins they will rank waitlistees. The process apparently goes as follows: When a student withdraws their acceptance, the admissions committee reviews the waitlistees and tries to replace the withdrawn applicant with an applicant of similar stature (i.e. MCAT, GPA, Clinical Experience, etc). So that's the deal as of right now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the whole situation. Hopefully I'll know before I start orientation at another school.
