I thought I would start a thread for my fellow waitlisters. There seems to be a lot of us this year. Anyone know how many points of the composite score are devoted to gpa? I am hoping to get accepted once my transcript is updated by AACOMAS since I am just one point shy that magic 85. I am still determining if my polisci grade is my actual grade or a mistake(either way I am hoping it gets changed because I dont deserve it), but if the low grade stands, I raised my gpa from a 3.24 to a 3.26. My science gpa went up more than the overall. So I wonder if these slight improvements will be enough to get me 1 more point. If anyone has any information on this, please let me, and the rest of us waitlistees know. Also, if you know other ways to raise the score, please share.

Still don't know where I stand, no phone calls or letters. I'll go back to my house tomorrow, it may have been sent there instead of to my parents'. I forget which address I designated.

I also got waitlisted at UMDNJ... I sent them my graduate school grades from the fall recently but still haven't heard anything. I got into WVSOM and loved it..even though I'm a NJ resident..I'll take the move if need be. Keep your heads up! 😀

please explain magic score of 85?

please explain magic score of 85?
The magic score of 85 is the minimum amount of points that you need to get accepted at UMDNJ. Each component of your application is designated a number. For example, your interview is out of 20 points. Depending on how well you do on your interview you get assigned 1 to 20 points. Other factors that included are your GPA, MCAT, undergraduate institution, among other factors. These points are tallied up. If the number meets or exceeds 85, it is an "automatic" acceptance. I believe there is a range where people are waitlisted and one where they are rejected.

I know that DrKuba can explain this better, but I thought I'd have a crack at it. Best of luck everyone.

Crossing my fingers for you! 😀

I was waitlisted last year due to my tardy application. As I understand it, I was one of the top people on the waitlist that didn't get in; this year, I applied early and was accepted right away. My best advice to you is to keep in touch with Paula. I don't think she can *snap* her fingers and get you in, but she does have considerable pull and if she likes you, perhaps she might pass this information on to the board...

I am waitlisted and only 3 points away from the magic number. I don't think the waitlist moved this month as I called and left messages for Paula and she never got back to me. Maybe next month.

In the meantime, preparing for the move to Maine for UNECOM

Yep👍

Good luck everybody!

Thanks guys!

yea, I don't think they will start pulling people from the list at least March👎 . That's why I am trying to get an "automatic" acceptance by pulling up my composite.

I'm with you all in this club! I don't have much to update you guys with since little movement is made, and probably won't until after the holidays. after that, i'll call paula, and she and i will be new best friends 🙂 haha. good luck to everyone!

PS also, i agree with DRKUBA on asking how much your GPA/MCAT affect your score (i just know it's a lot). if my GPA goes up by .05, is that enough for 1 point/2points/etc? i'm not even sure if we're allowed to know this information haha

How do you guys know how many points you have? Will they tell you if you call the admissions office?

well at first, i don't think they did. my friend called up midway through the semester when she was on hold and they didn't offer her the information - just the general jist that she was close and had a good interview. but by time i spoke to paula (late november), she offered the information to me. so probably if they didn't give that information to you at first, they might now if you call up to check on things.

Got the waitlist letter today when I went back to my house and checked my mail.

Anyone know their historical waitlist movement statistics?

Waiting here too ( although i think i am close to the magic number like DrKuba a fellow husky) and like JJ18 have been accepted and loved WVSOM! Good luck on waiting

The whole concept of the points system seems strange. Do you all know if other schools do the same thing? I have never heard of that. Good luck to all of you hoping to get off the waitlist! 😀 :luck:

I believe a lot so schools use point systems to compare students objectively. Very few will tell you what your score is or what their system is.

Oh, ok. Someone was always writing or checking things off in my interviews, so maybe that is what they were doing. Interesting.....🙄

B+ too DRKUBA! Happy Holidays

Hey all,
I was waitlisted here as well with a composite score of 84.5 😡 . The best you can do is forward AACOMAS your updated transcript to have a GPA recalculation, which will then be forwarded onward, or you can wait until they lower their acceptance threshold from 85. That's what Paula told me when I spoke with her last.

so just to clarify, paula told you that the score will be eventually lowered from an 85 (I'm assuming towards the end of the cycle)? thanks for the helpful info (if it's true)!

84.5?! I hope you get in!

one of my tour guides interviewed in feb. so i would say there is still a chance.

Hey guys, Im Mike im new to posting here but I have been reading for a while..

I have my interview at UMDNJ SOM next week, its my first interview and im extremely nervous, but reading through this post is making me a bit more nervous when comparing my numbers..
My science GPA is a 3.75, non science 3.8, total of 3.78
My MCAT was a 22Q (8V, 7P, 7B) <--this is what really worries me.
The whole point thing just worries me alot, not sure if my interview points will make up for the poor MCAT. Any thoughts? Thanks guys!

they invited you, right? So stop frieken out about the numbers, and focus on nailing that interview. Oh, and mention at your interview that drkuba really deserves to get off the waitlist asap🙂.

and im the opposite of you - 3.26gpa,32mcat. we have to counter our weak points by excelling somewhere else, you know?

yeah i hear ya, im going in there and nailing that interview. Thanks for the input though, and best of luck to you, im sure you will be fine!

anyone know if things like being published in a peer-reviewed journal will raise the composite score? SO far we know it has gpa, mcat, your undergrad, interview as components. Where is experiences, etc?

i'm not quite sure. if it does, it's not going to bring it up as much as a GPA boost. i asked Paula if shadowing a DO over break (and a LOR from him) would help my score, and she said no but that it's good to show the adcom that you're still putting yourself out there. it may be a different story for getting published - i'd give her a call to know for sure.

I would have to concur and say you definitely still have a shot. Your Grad GPA and MCAT should really help you, just keep your fingers crossed.

bump...

Anyone else from the waitlist hear from UMDNJ?

hey everyone

I found out that I was on the wait list after febs. adcom meeting so my fingers are crossed, and good luck to everyone else, hopefully people start withdrawing and the list will move!

I dont know if anyone knows this about UMDNJ, but I was thinking of applying to the grad program at the school just in case I dont get accepted this year. The program is supposed to act as a great stepping stone in improving your app. to the school. However, I am not sure if I am supposed to apply for the thesis track, or non-thesis track. They told me on the phone it didnt matter, but on the website, it seems that the thesis track is the way to go for helping someone get into med school. Anyone have any ideas?

Hell, I'd have been happy to hear anything from them. I've called a few times to see if I am complete (which I should have been over 2 months ago) and have been told repeatedly that they would let me know in an email and then I get nothing. From the sound of things, I'm definately competative enough to have been offered an interview with a 3.37 overall GPA, 3.7 post-bac science GPA, 28Q MCAT's and over 4 years experience/volunteering. Oh well. I've given up on them by now.... Good luck to the rest of you!!

A lot of people don't hear by email, though - so keep an eye on the mail box.
Good luck!

I was told that I would also hear by e-mail, but I got an interview invite through snail mail today:clap: , My application had also been complete for a while, nothing in the e-mail, so don't give up.

sorry for another "what do you think" but....just recieved the interview yesterday

29P MCAT
2.8 GPA
good shadowing (did it for my job)
Cancer research

I interview early April...is it even worth my money? I do not want to do the whole waitlist thing...it gives me GERD...

Honestly, because of your GPA and the time of your interview, it might be difficult to gain an outright acceptance...

Good luck with your decision:luck:

I just recently got waitlisted at UMDNJ-SOM, and just wondering if any other waitlisters have heard anything.

For those waitlisted is UMDNJ your #1 choice? I know it is for kuba, anyone else?

Oh yeah, it's Kuba's first choice? Interesting 🙂

For all those interested, the class is officially full, so all entries will be made via the waitlist now. All people interviewing before April 20 (The adcom meeting, not 100% sure it's the 20), are essentially interviewing for a better waitlist spot.

What??? How do you know this?? Are you 120% sure? I interviewed just after the March Adcom meeting. I missed it by a week. You cannot be serious.

It is not difficult to have 100 spots filled.

You don't have to be so blunt. This is my top choice school. Just from being on SDN I know a lot of people have been waitlisted, so I was hoping that it was not filled. I was also wondering where this information came from. And it is 108.
