Has anyone received an invite for an interview at UMich? If so what date are you planning on going?

oh great! i'm flying in on the 3rd and planning to stay at a hotel...how far is the school from DTW airport? (i read 45 mins, but a hotel 3 miles from the school claimed to be 25 mins from the airport) and what hotel would you recommend?

Campus is about 25 miles from the airport. It usually ends up taking 30-40 minutes. I don't have much experience with hotels in the area. There are 2 that are located on campus, both being fairly near the College of Pharmacy, however I think they come with a pretty hefty price tag.

If you're looking for something a bit more economical, there are plenty of chain hotels located within a few miles of campus. Taxi companies in the area are pretty inexpensive and reliable.

I submitted Pharmcas Sept. 28th and it was mailed October 12th. I mailed my supplemental October 23rd. My GPA is 3.4 and my PCAT composite was 83.

thanks a lot! i'm looking for something cheap...i started searching and found some cheap ones around 2-5 miles off campus...good to know taxis are cheap and reliable...i'm looking to spend as little money as possible for accommodations...

Also, I'm not sure if she just does this for applicants doing their undergraduate here, but the day I submitted pharmcas the Assistant Dean sent me an email message.

And our student panel rocked, beer and pizza is the way to go for enticing students to come there lol

I actually did not get in which is strange because they stated the interview was what was going to decide who got in and I thought I did quite well during mine.

Yeah I intereviewed there 10/30 and it was super laid back, message me if anyone has questions about it. ...I was accepted an hour after I got home from it... my first choice school 🙂

snail mail, I never got an email.

According to their PHARMCAS page, they interview about 150 and accept 120. So every year about 20% do not get accepted or waitlisted.

Well Dean Perry clarified it for me today and stated that a decision will not be made on me until all other apps are in. Was kind of a poorly worded letter, but at least I know what it means.

Its too bad, I had a damn good time there. That pizza place had some good food lol

I think my class had 84ish people and that was the most or near the most students in a class.

i've honestly been checking my email like a mad woman all day since Friday since people who interviewed before us heard back the same day (my bf keeps telling me 2-3 days means 2-3 business days!)...if you don't mind me asking who were you? PM me if you're more comfortable...good luck!

Anybody know anything about Michigan's financial aid and/or how difficult it is to become a resident? Tuition is pretty pricey for out of staters.

It is VERY difficult to gain in-state residency. I think it's a minimum of 3 years in state before you can apply. Don't count on it.

I don't know about UofM's/Michigan's residency policy, but in my experience, you cannot gain residency if your sole purpose for residing in the state is to go to school.

I'd just like to add that from several pharmacy school interviews, I have heard that getting in state tuition is hard. So, there is a conflict between what the website directly states and what people actually experience.

Any UMich Pharmacy students out there that can provide some evidence of financial support that the school cites? I hope there is no assumption that financial aid will be given or easy, only to find out once you're an actual student that you can't receive it for xyz abstract reasons.

My interview is for the 19th of March. The first sentence is what confuses me. "I am writing to inform you of your interview schedule for Monday 3/16/10 via email for your perusal." Like I said, my interview is on Friday the 19th. Also, 3/16/10 is a Tuesday. I'm assuming this was just a typo. Hopefully I don't get to Michigan on Friday and nobody is there.

Greetings College of Pharmacy interviewees for March 19, 2010, I am writing to inform you of your interview schedule for Monday 3/16/10 via email for your perusal. Please come to 1028 Office of Academic Services prior to 11:15 am. The College of Pharmacy is on the corner of Church and Geddes just off Washtenaw Avenue, 428 Church St. All UM buildings are identified with large blue and white signs in front. The College is a 4 story red brick building. There is a large 8 story parking structure on S. Forest and S. University to use for parking as parking on the street is limited. The parking structure is 5-10 minute walk to the College. If if you are flying to Michigan use the Detroit Metro Airport located 26 miles from Ann Arbor with daily shuttle service to the city to minimize the need for car rental. There are many hotels in the area to use with the Holiday Inn near UM campus, 2800 Plymouth Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, 734-769-9800 providing complimentary shuttle service to the campus and College of Pharmacy. The Red Roof Inn is located direcdtly across the street from the Holiday Inn on Plymouth Rd. Kindly remember it is wintry weather in Michigan so please dress appropriately. If your plans have changed and you no longer wish to be considered for the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program please let me know at your earliest convenience. Do come prepared with 1-3 written questions to ask faculty during the interviews in a user friendly setting. You will meet with four faculty members individually for 20 minutes each followed by a group session with enrolled Pharm.D students who will present a student panel to enable you to ask questions with lunch provided courtesy of the College of Pharmacy. Yeah, that's a typo. They only conduct interviews on Fridays. You can contact Dean Perry if that would alleviate your stress. Best of luck!

My interview is coming up...anybody wanna give me any advice? Was there a writing prompt involved at all? Are there any local places on campus that I need to try foodwise? What was your overall impression of the interview? Looking at my itinerary, it looks like I have three separate interviews with another fellow pharmacy applicant. Was it more of a conversation type interview or were they grilling you with questions? Any answers to these questions would be really helpful. 😎

Woot! I got accepted into Michigan! I just wanted to share my experience for anybody who still has to interview. There was no writing prompt. You were interviewed by 3 or 4 different faculty for 20-30 minutes. If you were partnered up with another interviewee during the interview, you split the time for the interview and one person sits outside the room. Dean Perry was awesome. It was the best interview experience I've had so far. The faculty and students were extremely nice and the interview was more of a conversation than intensive questions. If you need to submit an addendum explaining low pcat subscores under 60 or low grades, write a paragraph and either email it to Dean Perry or send it through regular mail. Also come with three questions that are written so she won't yell at you. If you fly in to the airport in Detroit, take the shuttle instead of a taxi or she will yell at you. lol. Be prepared and you should be fine. I found out that I was accepted while we were walking back from lunch with the student panel and the other interviewees. I get my email instantaneously on my blackberry. It was so hard holding in my excitement. I just felt like giving Dean Perry a hug.
