Hopefully threads like this aren't getting too obnoxious. I am fortunate to have an acceptance to Michigan and also my state school (go bucks) which are both excellent. I really liked Michigan but it will be about $20,000 more per year. Is this cost worth any benefit I may get from attending a "top ten" school. To me it's not merely an issue of ranking but it seems that this sort of thing does contribute to residency placement. I would appreciate any help (especially from those of you who have visited both).🙂

Add up the dollars gained by going to umich, vs dollars lost for paying for it, its probably not worth it.

However, its a great school. And if you love football its the place to be. Ann Arbor isn't that great though. All depends on what you want from a school.

Here are reasons to go with umich.

- A Michigan football fan
- rich and money is no issue
- for some reason you actually like ann arbor
- You like the cold weather with limited skiing
- You want to go into academic med.
- It will eat you apart knowing you could have gone to a better ranked med school, but didn't.

Do you want to paying off your loan until your 40, or 35?

Otherwise just go with your state school OSU is pretty good as far as state schools go.

Ann Arbor is actually pretty awesome.... in my four years at umich, I have never heard anyone say that they dislike Ann Arbor. There's alot to do outside of the usual campus stuff, like a large downtown area with great restaurants/bars/clubs. Also, if you like music, there are concerts all of the time with up and coming bands, as well as with bigger tickets.

And I grew up in a big city, and I still think that Ann Arbor is awesome, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who has lived here for four years and dislikes the city.

I must agree with u, even though i bleed green and white, I think Ann Arbor is great, and I'm up almost 24/7 cause my bf stays there, was actually there today. The med schl is pretty good, studied there many times, plus the Pass/Fail 1st yr is great, the med students are pretty relaxed
