I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has been accepted to Duluth recently, or if anyone knows where they are in the interview process? I am hoping to attend this coming fall, and would like to hear the thoughts from anyone who will be going there or who is currently on the wait list. Any stats or new information would be great to know.

Hey man,
I interviewed there 10.15 and I'm on the waitlist. I'm a MN res, from upstate. I have a buddy who is a first year there and they take a class of about 60 and have about 80 on their waitlist. Last I heard, they will notify us of our position on the waitlist sometime in April. Have you interviewed yet?

Hey,

I interviewed back in September and will start there this fall. Feel free to fire off any questions; I'll answer them through the private message thing.

The web site (through sdn, I think) that has all sorts of information on past interviews was really helpful.

Have a good one,

Colt

I too interviewed in October and was put onto the wait list. I have been trying to find out anything about last years wait list such as movement or the number of people who came in off of it. I thought my interview went very well, but I guess only time will tell on the overall outcome.

I know they took some off of the waitlist... that's all I know, though...

I'm just mailing out my withdraw letter to UMD today, so hopefully they will be taking someone else off of the waitlist soon! Good luck guys! :luck:

As far as waitlist movement...last year a buddy of mine was somewhere in the second quarter of 80 on the waitlist (so between 20-40) and he got in sometime in June. So it sounds like they must take a significant number. I'm hopeful too! It's so hard to wait until April to see where we rank on their waitlist though!

Has anyone heard anything new from Duluth lately? interviews, acceptances, withdrawals, or rejections. I know their last interview is at the end of this month, so everything should be starting to wrap up soon.

i interviewed there in early january and they said they were mid-way in their admissions cycle. i too was waitlisted, but from what i hear a lot of people are accepted off the waitlist. apparently, many prospective candidates don't think they are as serious about rural primary care as they really are and withdrawal or go to different schools. it was a great school and i absolutely fell in love with it. i think the big thing is some students want to specialize to make more $pesos$ and primary care is not really where thats at. i could care less about money....i've been poor all my life!!! lol...but, admissions said we would know where we are at in april.

I've heard conflicting input regarding the UMD waitlist. I was waitlisted during this application cycle. My letter stated I was in the "acceptable category." I've heard other applicants say that they were on a "high priority waitlist." I'm not sure if this was their wording or if there really are different waitlist categories. What did your letters say? Let's get to the bottom of this!

My waitlist letter also said I was in the 'acceptable' category. I've never heard of Duluth having a 'high priority' category...has anyone else heard of this?

Everytime I have talked to the admissions office they have never once let it slip that there was a "high priority waitlist", however I have heard from other applicants that they were on this better waitlist. So needless to say I'm a little skeptical that one actually exists.

BTW Mocha, you have great numbers, you will get in.

Thanks jon, I really loved Duluth so I sure hope so! Good luck to you too! Do you suppose we will hear in the beginning of April, or at the end of the month? Does anyone know?

I think they send us a letter through snail mail in the middle of April. From what I've heard, if you are in the top-third of the waitlist you have a great chance of getting accepted, the middle-third has a decent chance, and the lower-third probably won't get you accepted. So we have a month to wait for that oh-so-important letter.😡😡

I've heard that they only initially accept like 45 people, when they intend to have a class of about 60, and that they accept a group of waitlisters right away in April to fill up the class. Has anyone else heard this?

Now that it's just a month away is anyone else obsessed with checking their mail? 🙂

I've become too pessimistic to check my mail anymore. I realized awhile ago that it is more demoralizing to check my mail daily and find nothing there, than to just wait it out and see what happens. Man, I'm a real downer today.🙁

I have not heard of a priority wait list either. The admissions office just said that those on the wait list will be notified the middle of April. I do know they have taken from about 14-32 people off the wait list in the past couple years. I am pretty sure the last interview was done this past Friday the 14th. So we just have a few more days to wait before the list comes out.

Wow you guys are full of good information! If they finished interviewing on the 14th, I wonder how long until they send out the list? Do you think it may be only be a week or two?

I was told it won't be until mid-April. This was a phone conversation a few weeks ago, so maybe the plans have changed since that time. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they did decide to make the release date a little sooner. 😀

I too called up a couple weeks ago and was told about the last interview set up for the 14th, but that may have changed since then. Otherwise I am hoping they should have all those new applicants reviewed by the end of this month, so maybe the list will come out a little early.

I had just talked to someone on here and they said the last interview was this past Monday, so we should likely hear something at the end of next week.

Another question for everyone. Did you also apply to the U of M Twin Cities, and if you did, what point in the process are you at there?

Is it impossible for an out of state student with a 3.5 and a 30MCAT to get in at Duluth if the student expresses a sincere interest in primary care? Does it make a difference if the student is from a surrounding state like Wisconsin or North Dakota?

Last year I was on the waiting list too. I found out April 11th last year that I was on the bottom half of the alternate list of 72 candidates. You will NOT get a specific number on the list. Susan won't tell you on the phone either 🙂

Hope we all find out soon about this year's list!

So we are NOT given a specific number? dang, that is a lil frustrating. Can you call and ask how many people are still in front of you?

I guess if the committee meets this coming Tuesday, letters will be mailed out on Wednesday. Not too much longer, but an eternity none the less.

I wonder why they won't give us a concrete number. That is kind of frustrating isn't it? I mean, for example, being somewhere in the second quarter of 70 or 80 is so vague! Being number 20 would be a good place--still hope--but being number 40 is...well, not so much. Ugh.

Thankfully there is not too much time left to wait. Best of luck to everyone!

Oh about that "high-priority waitlist"... I heard from the admissions coordinator that that is for real. I think that just means you're in the top 10 or so. Anybody get on that list?

I had heard that too. So far there is only 7 people on the "high priority" list, unfortunately I am not one of them. Does anyone know how many acceptances they have handed out yet, and/or does anyone know if they accept about 45 then take the rest off the list as someone mentioned above.

Okay, I know I can probably look this up somewhere, but otoh, I could just ask you guys 😉 What attracted you to UMN-Duluth? What are the things you like about the program/location/whatever? I'll be applying to schools this fall, and I'm a MN resident, so I'm very curious about whether the school would be a good fit.

I know it's centered on primary care/rural care... how about psychiatry/neurology ? Would it kill my app if I expressed an interest in the mental health specialties?

So the people on the "high priority" get acceptances in mid-April? Or will they receive a letter telling them where they are at? Also, how many people get accepted past the high priority folks? Hmmm...the plot thickens.

how do you guys/gals feel about the waitlist letter? i'm VERY pessimistic about it, don't have a good feeling for some reason.

I felt like my interview went really really well and I was pretty surprised I didn't get accepted initially. I am definitely hoping for some good news. I think they usually take quite a few off their list, even a good number past this 'priority' list--so keep faith! One day to go!!

friend of a friend apparently got an acceptance. i was told they were on the high priority list.

Ohh okay. Any chance your friend is going to go somewhere else? 😉 Kidding....mostly....

Okay, what time does mail arrive for everyone? I don't get my mail until around 1 or 2 pm.....getting anxious!

Not a chance they go elsewhere. One less spot.👎mad: And I'm not sure about the mail or where the letter will be arriving actually. I've had mail from them that has arrived at both of my addresses. 🙄

Any word yet anyone? My mail hasn't come yet....I'm starting to feel OCD...I keep checking my mailbox over and over and over....
