Hi guys!

I just need some URGENT help!!! 😕
Got accepted to Minnesota and UTSHSA and don't know which one is the best?!!?!? Also, don't have a lot of time to decide so any help would be WONDERFUL!!!

Thanks and good Luck to all!

Try to make a list of pros and cons.. See the points that really matter to you.
Compare things like: cost, location, how happy the students seemed, if you want to specialize find out which one gives you a better perspective, extra curricular opportunities offered, check which one has a stronger name. Also, it is likely that you make contacts and find more opportunities at the area you went to school ( so where do you want to live after?)
Funny thing is that you have to extremes to pick: super cold weather and super hot weather 😉
Which one do you prefer?

Anyways, people can help you with pros and cons.. But the decision will be yours because you have to see what topics matter the most to you. For me the name of the school and the location plays an important role... So see what matters to you!

I dont know anything about UMN. Just know it is freaking cold there, don't know if that matters to you.

The points I have to say about UTHSCSA:

pros: 1-great program, 2-great chance to get accepted in post grad program, 3-gives you good extra curricular opportunities ( such as implants placement!!), 4-very cheap cost of living, 5-pleasant little town, 6-good tuition cost, 7-the south is famous for the friendliness of people
8- Texas is more diverse than Minnesota. You might feel more comfortable being a foreigner there

cons: 1-they divide the group in 8. This means 8 different dental schools: you are stuck for the entire two years with the same instructor, who can be great or can be an arse ex military! For that reason I found some students who were unhappy with the program
2-The students seemed very tired there, they seem a little pushy during junior year.
3-It is super hot there.
4-If you intend to live on the west coast you might get some sort of prejudice ( that type of prejudice people from north of US have against the South, you know?).

Now try to do the same with the other school.. And think about the points that are more significant to you.
good luck!

Bldent, it's really difficult to make decision so if you have any friends or senior studying in both of the school you can ask them and compare the pros and cons.
I definately agree with ilovegoldens, but again everything depends on your priority.
Now, what i can suggest is study about both of school throughly and choose one which best suits you.

Bye and good luck👍

Hi,

First of all, know about both the schools and decide your self which is good for you. In my opinion Minnesota is a good and happiest program.I had my seniors studying over there. They said that it is a great program and you could get good clinical experience and u could come out as a successful dentist.good instructors in a peaceful and friendlier environment. UTHSCSA is also a good program ,but learning in a stessful environment is very hard. My friend got a seat in uthscsa last year, but she decilned there. Compared to cost of living 2-300$ low in texas doesnt matter a lot. Be careful in planning..I vote for minnesota.

Good luck

Thank you guys so much for the help!!! I really appreciate!
I made my decision and this is how I decided:

Both schools have excellent programs UMN and UTHSCSA and they are kinda similar in the way that both schools divide their students in small groups! Both schools give you a lot of clinical experience and extracurricular classes, such as implant placement! UTHSCSA is a little bit more "computerized", library software, classes online, digital x-rays. It is also way cheaper and warmer, so I chose UTHSCSA! Although I did hear about some very mean teachers there, so I am a bit scared, while students at UMN seemed to be very happy and not so stressed out, but I guess I will have to wait and see for myself! Wish me luck! :xf:

Thank you guys again for all the advices!
Good luck to everyone and a GREAT 2010 for all of us!!! 🙂

Good luck. I think I would have made the same choice.
As far as the mean teachers, I also heard something that might make you feel better: apparently they are mean if you did something that they do not like. So if you are a good student and listen to them they won't be.
But you will be lucky and get someone like Dr Bohnemkamp 😉

Thank you ilovegoldens! Hopefully I won't be in the famous "group 1"!!!
E boa sorte na UCLA!!! 😉
