I looked at the Rush secondary, and it was a pdf that couldnt be edited in acrobat. So I opened it in photoshop and used the text tool to type on it. It didnt turn out great, becasue the fonts printed kinda fuzzy- but I was wondering if anyone else had any success with this method.
I may just go with the typrewriter if I can't improve the print quality.
I know most online apps can be edited, but I think there are a few more like Rush's out there.

You can not use Adobe Photoshop for text editing. It is a graphic design program. This is my field so trust me, I know what I am talking about. The reason it will not work is because Photoshop imports your pdf as a graphic layer. In order for your text to look almost like it was printed from a program like Microsoft Word, it must start in Photoshop at a minimum resolution of 300dpi. Anything lower results in jagged edges because Photoshop is not a vector base application (as compared to Illustrator). The problem with a 8x11.5 page at 300dpi resolution is the file size. If you do this, expect a photoshop document in the double digit file size (per page!).

If the pdf does not have editable fields (like it should be!), then your best bet is still the typewriter. A second option is to get your hands on Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (not the reader) and add text fields where you are supposed to fill out stuff with this program. Good luck!

you don't have to type your essays directly on the rush secondary. it says that you can use additional sheets, so what i did (and apparently what many people do) is to just write all their responses on a computer, print it out, and attach it to the application. much easier that way!
