Greetings!

I have determined that I desire and will pursue a career in medicine. I know my specialty will be some form of psychiatry.

I wish to understand behavior and mental illness, provide care for patients, as well as help further the science.

I've only recently started researching different programs and would like to be pointed in the right direction. I would also like to learn more about specific careers that are similar to what I described above.

I thank you for your time in reading this and look forward to any responses.

are you asking if you should get an MD or PhD?

A PhD is not a physician, so you would not be a psychiatrist...

No, I am extremely interested in medicine and would like to be able to work in a hospital or clinic, while pursuing research opportunities.

Than kyou 🙂 I was worried about posting in the wrong section.

Feel free to PM me about MD/PhD, MD, and PhD 🙂

I shadowed psychiatrists and the general consensus is that if all you want to do is interview and counsel you don't need a medical degree. That being said if you want to prescribe medicine in addition you probably do. You can still work in a hospital, just that if all you want to do is counseling you don't need the MD
