Hey guys,
Recently got back my MCAT score and am sort of unsure where to apply. I got the score back today and ended up scoring 131/125/130/130 for a total of 516. Im a bit lost in the sense that my other scores were great with the exception of CARS, and with my GPA I just don't know where to go from here. I'm at around a 3.55 cGPA, 3.65 sGPA with the last semester being a 4.0. Im a rising senior doing a Biomedical Engineering BS.
I have around 1400 hours worth of research experience in a wet lab researching some pretty interesting things, with 1 poster presented on and another on the way and 2 publications also on the way but not submitted. I was told by my PI however that it would be written within the LOR. Currently in an REU targeted towards URM students but I'm not sure I can consider myself one since I am white. I'm disabled due to suffering from a rare genetic disorder but am completely ambulatory and able to physically move perfectly fine. Also come from a relatively poor background and was an immigrant, so I'm sure that may have played a role in getting accepted to the REU.
Ive shadowed around 30 hours so far, and have done about 250 hours of clinical volunteering in hospice so far and about 350 nonclinical volunteering hours doing things like mentoring city children, tutoring, and even being a crisis counsellor as part of a crisis text line.
I am a mentor for the underclassmen within my major as well as a Chair on one of my campus clubs. I've also TA'd multiple courses for multiple subjects and will be receiving strong letters of recommendation for that work.
I'm a NY resident and attend school here as well. I've already submitted the app for verification and I'm thinking of applying to the following schools, plan to add up until I hit 30. My questions are, what are my chances of getting in this cycle? What schools should I remove and add? What OOS schools would be a good addition?
Schools right now:
Albany
Cornell
Rochester
Stony Brook
Buffalo
Hofstra
Icahn
Albert Einstein
Columbia
NYMC
SUNY Downstate
SUNY Upstate
Upstate
Thanks for the help.
