Hello All! This is my first time using SDN. I'm waiting for feedback on my PS before I submit so I thought I should jump on here. I'm a bit stressed about not having submitted yet considering we're almost halfway through the month but I want to ensure good quality writing before I commit. Anywho, here it goes:

  1. cGPA: 3.9
  2. sGPA: 3.8ish (I don't know how to calculate this. Also, I have 2 transcripts, one from CC, and one from my 4-year Uni after transferring)
  3. MCAT 1st attempt: Sept '24: 502 (125/124/126/127) 2nd attempt: May '25 511 (130/124/128/129). (CARS SUCKS)
  4. State: MD
  5. Ethnicity: Muslim Female, ORM, Arabic speaker, parents from Morocco, born in USA (GA). Speak 3 languages fluently.
  6. Undergrad: Best public school in MD (we don't have many lol) but mid-tier nationally
  7. Clinical experience:
    1. ~1800 hours of paid clinical work as a medical assistant at 3 allergy clinics across the state over 1y. (Very hands-on work like allergy shots and skin tests)
    2. ~100 hrs of hospice volunteer since January '25 (continuing). This role includes volunteering at nursing home + resident homes + tutoring for siblings of one patient + deliver groceries/birthday gifts + weekly calls to patient homes to assess supply needs
  8. Research experience and productivity:
    1. Undergraduate research (~200 hours in 1 year) in bird mating behavior
    2. Clinical orthopedic research (~100 hrs in 6 mos) (No pubs in either. Very technical work. Nothing impressive)
  9. Shadowing experience and specialties represented:
    1. OBGYN (in Morocco with aunt) ~ 16 hrs
    2. Cardiology ~ 13 hrs
    3. Immunology ~ 10 hrs
    4. EMT ride along ~ 10 hrs
  10. Non-Clinical Volunteering:
    1. ~100 hrs: mentoring kids online with low english proficiency during the pandemic through a local library
    2. ~40 hrs: designed and presented a STEM practicum introducing students at a local elementary school to science
  11. Other ECs:
    1. Leadership ~ 220 hrs as event coordinator of my student org that focused on providing remote support for pediatric patients in my community (through fundraisers, charity race, hospital and hospice donations, etc)
    2. Summer art camp counselor ~ 180 hrs (paid)
    3. Retail Sales Associate ~ 800 hrs (paid duh)
    4. Drawing (hobby) ~ 2000 hrs since age 12
    5. Member of Arab student club in undergrad (relevent bc I helped raise funds with them when an earthquake hit Morocco in 2023), also just cultural identity lol
    6. Scholarships: 2 awarded
  12. Anything else not listed you think might be important: I guess what I mentioned in my OIE essay: I was a primary caretaker for my paralyzed grandmother since age 14 onwards which ushered me into the world of medicine.
  13. Letter of Rec current stash: letter packet
    1. (supposedly strong) LOR from Dr. I worked with as an MA (he said it was strong, not sure lol)
    2. LOR from Neuro prof (might be generic)
    3. LOR from Physiology prof (might be generic)
    4. LOR from English prof (from community college, took 2 sems with him. Strong letter)
I'm still working on a school list so forgive me if I don't have it ready yet but definitely will be applying to my state school (UMSOM) and those in DC area (Georgetown could be a reach). I'm looking mostly for clinical experience/service oriented schools as my app has a focus on that. Will be applying to DO as well. Please suggest schools that fit given my ECs and stats profile. Thank you and good night (or good morning haha).

Some schools screen at 150 hours for non clinical volunteering (excluding mentoring/teaching) so your chances for interviews are limited to some extent. Your hospice work may be non clinical volunteering. I suggest these schools with your stats:
Maryland
George Washington
West Virginia
Virginia Commonwealth
Wake Forest
Methodist (when it opens)
NOVA MD
Belmont
Alice Walton
Roseman
TCU
Ponce (St. Louis)
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Also apply to DO schools and I suggest these:
WVSOM
NYITCOM
Touro-NY
PCOM
LECOM
CUSOM
MU-COM
DMU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
KCU-COM
AZCOM
TUNCOM
UIWSOM

Some schools average multiple MCAT scores.
Your nonclinical volunteering is not impressive. You are supposed to get off campus and out of your comfort zone. You have to learn to deal with people very unlike yourself. It doesn’t seem like you have done that yet.
