If you follow the history of the CDC, all of their biggest failures have come after politicians tried to meddle in what should be primarily scientific endeavors. See setting lead levels.

The folks at CDC are good and I guarantee they know this is BS and aren’t thrilled about it. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t someone internal who leaked this to the press.
