My professor wants to buy my textbooks for my first year at dental school as a graduation gift. She told me to get them now and study over the summer. I dont see the studying over the summer thing happening but she said she wants to see the books when school starts and see that they have been used so that she knows that she got her moneys worth 🙂 .. I am not complaining cuz that saves me alot of money but is there any way to find out now what books i need to buy and to buy them now so that she can pay for them. Also, will i need every book.. and finally.. does she realize that they are pretty expensive.. I feel weird to give her the bill but thats what she says to do. I definitely need the money so I am not against it but its weird.. What do you think and if you know anything about the books, prices, requirements and availability now , please let me know. I have to tell her by next week. Thanks

How nice.
Are books like thousands of dollors in dental school$?
I hope she doesn't get a heart attack when she sees the bill.

Your prof is buying your textbooks!? Why? I assume you are also getting an 'A' in the course for the same reason...

What do you mean? I got an A in both her classes...She is also my adviser, and employer. I work as a lab assistant in her lab, kind of like a teacher's assistant.. She is a widow and childless so some of her students are like her children.

I have no idea if she realizes that it will cost that much...i will feel really bad to send her a bill for anything over 500 ..heck i feel bad sending her a bill for $1.

Email Terry Barker ([email protected]), she can help you. She might not have next years book list this early but maybe you can get this years for the 1st years. Keep in mind many of the texts you really don't need.

Don't buy any books. UNC went digital with the class of 2008. All of your textbooks whether you want them or not are now going to be put on your laptop when you receive it. And it is going to cost you about $1800 for the year. I wasn't pleased about it but not much that you can do about it. You can email Terry like DcS said, but she will likely tell you the same thing. And I may not be exact on the money, but if I remember correctly, I think I remember our class president saying we paid $900 fall and $900 winter semester for the rights or whatever it is for our books. I sure would prefer the old fashioned way.

That's right, I forgot about that. Our class tried to fight that for you guys but once it was in the works nothing could stop the train. Complete waste of money IMO. Just something nice to put on the brochure about how technologically advanced and cutting edge we are 🙄

Yea, many of my classmates, myself included, feel the same way. Which is why I don't read any textbooks now, just lecture notes.
