Has anyone done the interview with Chapel Hill Health Management program before?

I'd like to know what to expect. They said it'd be a half day ordeal.

Also, I'll be flying in a day before to check out the area. Any recommendations?

I did not interview there, but I am in the Exec Master's program...regarding hotels, if you can afford the Carolina Inn, it is beautiful and a 2 minute walk from McGavran-Greenberg and Rosenau. There is also a Sheraton and a Holiday Inn Express off 15-501 that you may want to consider. The Sheraton usually has a shuttle that you can have drop you off and call to pick you up. The Holiday Inn Express is a minute from one of the Chapel Hill's free public transportation bus stops that will take you to the med school and hospital. Good luck!:luck:

thanks for the heads-up! i'm actually quite nervous, since i wasn't expecting interviews to be a part of the admissions process for mph/mha.

Don't be nervous! I'm sure you'll do fine. Since you are getting there early, you can always walk up and down Franklin Street to see some shops. The bus system is great and free.

Go to University Mall to check out the fun store, A Southern Season. It's like a gourmet grocery store/decorating store. They have a restaurant too, so you could have lunch there. I mention it because it's unique to Chapel Hill. Nice just to look around.

I always like to get the free apartment booklets and drive around to check out apartments in a potentially new area I'm considering moving to.

When did you receive a request to interview with UNC's MHA program? I submitted my application early dec. before the jan. 1st deadline.

How did they contact you for the interview?

hey senior 007, i pmed you back, but i'll just post the response here anyways for anyone else who might be wondering.

i was contacted via email about a week ago. i submitted my app over thanksgiving break, so the end of november.

i'm not really sure whether an interview is a good sign or bad sign, so i'm trying to take it face value and make the best of it.

oh and thanks sunny1 for all the suggestions, i will definitely have to visit that shop... and grab those apartment pamphlets - great idea, it'll definitely give me some perspective on the living costs of the area.

If you are completely unfamiliar with the area, I would spend the extra cash for Carolina Inn. Just for the ease of mind. You don't want to be worried about bus schedules or about navigating the campus. Carolina Inn is right there on Campus. If money is not a huge concern it definitely is the right choice for your first time in Chapel Hill.

oof, I wished money wasn't a concern, except I'm your typical middle-class family with no fin aid, so tuition has depleted my bank funds.

When I checked a week ago, Carolina Inn was running at about $250. Since I'm going by myself, I didn't want to spend that much on a hotel room, so I already booked for the Holiday Inn Express, $100. Though, I just checked again today and the internet deal for Carolina Inn was about $175. Bummer, can't cancel my reservation.

For future reference (other applicants), I heard from others in my program that the Carolina Inn has great discounts for AAA members...
