You will be in clinic doing prophies on patients in the summer of 1st year. You will be doing operative on live patients starting fall of 2nd year. You can do crowns on patients in spring of 2nd year. Endo fall 3rd year.

When I took boards we did so after 2nd year. It has since been changed to summer of 1st year.

1st and 2nd year, be prepared for multiple tests a week.

sounds pretty darn good to me

Boards went back to being after 2nd year.

any reason for the change back to 2nd year? also, doe unc give you any time off to study for the boards?

In fact, they didn't actively help us prepare for the boards. You are on your own.

They changed because the scores dropped some and they think that may help (probably a decent idea). And no, UNC does not give you time specifically devoted to boards prep.

since UNC didnt give you time off for the boards, did you have to study and take the boards during the academic semester?

also, If you could change 1 thing about UNC, whether it be curriculum, clinic, surroundings, faculty, etc...What would it be?

I don't know if has changed, but they used to give a week off in July to study as of 2 years ago.

I'm deciding right now between UNC and my own state school, Medical College of Georgia. If I am able to change my state of residency, it won't be that much of a price difference, and I love the Chapel Hill area. Those factors aside, are there any other reasons that current UNC students may have heard that make UNC better than MCG? Thanks! This is a tough decision, so any input would be appreciated, especially from out of staters.

I can't believe that the price is similar...MCG is cheaper than UNC, plus you are out of state the first year. Out of state students end up taking out about $60k for the first year tuition, fees, and living expenses. While I don't know a whole lot about MCG by reputation, I do know I would rather take out less money. That said, UNC is a great school with a great reputation.
