UNC or UF

First off I just want to say I am not posting this to anatogize anybody, but I do want my peers assistance when it goes to this decision

I have a hugh decision to make
I don't know where I am going to school, its either UF or UNC (Mercer is incase I do not pass calculas, if I don't then ATL bound)
Assuming I pass calculas I am really stuck on where to do
UF is the more logical choice
I am a florida resident which means tution will be cheap
its four hours away from home via car
Florida's licensure exam is accepted almost everywhere but california
its gainsville 🙁

However, UNC blew me away
Loved the area
but tution is high because I am outta state
great research oppurinities (not 100 percent sure on commuinity pharm)
no dont know if N Carolina's licensure exam is accepted everywhere

Any thoughs would be appericated

I think people should go to their state schools if they are fortunate enough to get accepted. It will save you soooo much money. UNC is 30K a year JUST TUITION, if you are out of state. That is MORE expensive then Mercer. Its not worth it. Go to UF, SAVE $$$. Even if your parents are paying, that extra money can go elsewhere. 😉

I wish you can give me that seat to UNC, which is my state school! lol..

You just need to weight out the pros and cons and make up your own mind. If your parents are helping with the bills get their input.

I personally would go with the logical choice, meaning where ever is the cheapest for the same education and opportunities.

Both Schools are top ten in the nation. You are lucky in that UF is ranked so highly, and is your state school - this is not always the case.

A friend of mine was in the same situation, eventually choosing UF. Both programs are very good. But cost wise, the choice is clear.

The money you are saving can go towards a down payment for a house, car, or a vacation after your graduation. What was that old saying? A penny saved is a penny earned?

if your main concern is research, UF is taking steps to give more research opportunities to it's PharmD students, which is rare in pharmacy schools. check this page out: http://www.cop.ufl.edu/millard/research%20opportunities/cop_research.htm

i've also heard that you can pay OOS tuition during the first year and in state the last three years.

Yes, the logical choice is the cheapest school, U. F.

IMO, I would go to the school that I feel will give me the best pharmacy school education. So, ask yourself: Between UNC and UF, which school do you feel will give you the best educational experience?

I agree. You really want to attend a school that offers your top priorities. If cost is your primary concern then UF is the more practical decision you can afford to make. However, if location is of the utmost concern, then UNC is the obvious choice. Either way you must figure out which school will offer the best education experience you want for the next 4 years. Both schools have exceptionally steller programs. The only major difference is, of course, tuition cost. However, if money is not a major concern to you then that leaves every other quality to discuss over with yourself (and/or parents if they are involved). Whichever you choose I hope and wish for the best for you. Good Luck!👍

its all about the money... saving +15k in tuition alone per year is huge. If you are really are interested in research, sure UF doesn't have the NC research triangle next door, but UF does to amazing research. It has a really strong medicinal chemistry and drug discovery program, and UF has several APPE rotations in industry: across Florida, NJ, PA, Ohio...

Also, UF offers a dual PharmD/PhD, while UNC does not. If you do decide on the dual program, you can apply during your P2.
