Hi guys I'm a current Virginia Tech Junior and will be applying to UNC next year. UNC is my top choice I think! Does anyone who was accepted to UNC this year (congrats!!) or in the past few years mind sharing their stats (GPA, GRE) with me? Also, did you find any classes particularly helpful to take as an undergrad to help prepare you for PT? Lastly, how many shadowing hours did you have an in what settings? Thank you all for your help! I'm just looking to prepare the best I can 🙂

Hi there, I am a Va Tech grad myself (BSME, a long time ago) and UNC DPT (just finished, waiting to take the board later this month). Take all the pre-reqs at Va Tech if you can, esp Anatomy & Physiology. I assume A&P would be offered, now that Va Tech has a medical school. What is your current major?

Unless you plan to switch to NC residency, UNC tuition for out-of-state students is pretty steep.

Hi! My majors are Biology and Psychology (I'm a double major) and yes I plan to take Anatomy and Physiology. My grandparents live in North Carolina so my plan is to switch to NC residence (with their help) after my first year. Also I've read that out of state tuition is about $40,000 a year. Is this accurate? Any other advice!? Thanks for your help!

UNC's DPT tuition for out-of-state students is $16,574.97 per semester. You'll have to pay a few thousands more for summer school, so yes, the total will be pushing $40K/yr.

As for advice, do the usual: try to get as high a GPA and GRE score as you can; do your volunteering/shadowing in several settings. It helps if you have an unusual background since the school is always trying to get a diverse class. It receives around 700 apps every year; from it, it selects 60 folks to interview, and the class size is 30. I have been involved with interviews for the last couple of years and was impressed by the caliber of students who make it to the final cut.

Great! Thank you so much for your help! Interesting to know class size and who gets interviews

If you have questions, feel free to PM me now or next year when you start to apply. It'd be nice to see a fellow Hokie at UNC!
