I have decided I want to move to NC or VA and I liked the programs I interviewed with pretty much equally on interview day. I am looking for advice on strengths and weakness of the program. Does the housestaff really get along as well as they appeared on interview day? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

From the VERY limited knowledge I have, I'd say reputation-wise, UVA>UNC>MCV-VCU~Wake

I only did UNC and I really did love the area and the people. I think they have that entire hospitality thing going for them. The applicant pool was very diverse. I think they're an awesome school overall.

I think Wake Forest is a very nice program--beautiful hospital, the nicest people you'll meet anywhere, highest acuity of pts in North Carolina etc, etc. I think UVA and UNC probably have a little stronger rep though, mostly b/c of research $$. Wake's fellowship placement is largely in house, but they do a decent job of sending folks out to solid places, while UVA and UNC's fellowship placement is a little broader. As a general "feel" though, I personally liked Wake the best of the three.

I had kinda figured that rep wise it was UVA>UNC etc. However, I have spoke to a few physicians that did training in the area. I was told that the rep was based upon research money and that atually the training was weak at UNC. I did know if anyone else had heard anything. Personally, I don't intend on staying in academia so clinical training is by far my priority.
