Hello I'm not asking for medical advice just had a question. I was recently diagnosed with secondary hypogonadism caused by hyperprolactinemia. With a 1-2mm microadenoma, My Doctor expressed that they were uncomfortable about treating either one because of an unfamiliarity with the medications. My question is this normal for a family medicine doctor ? They referred me to a endocrinologist for my type 1 diabetes about 6 months ago, and resent it for hypogonadism. It looks like I won't get in until January. Yet they have given me 2 testosterone injections which helped with symptoms but don't last long enough. Isn't there a guide to prescribing these medications ? If it matters they just finished residency in 2012, at a local ucsf program which is attached to a level 1 trauma and burn center. Is this something best left to specialist to handle ?

I would've referred you to endocrinology. You didn't acquire this overnight, so it's not an emergency. The January appointment thing isn't your PCP's fault, so you shouldn't expect them to treat you in the interim.

And, before the thread gets closed by the mods, SDN isn't for medical advice.

OK thanks, I thought that wouldn't constitute as advice since I wasn't asking for help. They only found the issue because I asked for my hormones to be tested. They didn't agree at first since I'm only 23, but with constant request they gave in. There wasn't suspicious until my request showed a low value which I already had a suspicious of at the time.
