"under review"=currently under review (along with others)
"ready for review"=have all necessary components to be reviewed but haven't gotten to your app yet

does it mean the file is in line to being presented at an upcoming adcomm meeting? does it mean it's complete and collecting dust? is it actively under review?!

It means I should be reading it rather than posting here to tell you I should be reading it. Or it means I've read it, recommended that you be interviewed but the dates in the next eight weeks are all booked up & "the office" is waiting until next month to offer you an interview in early January, or it means that you've not been recommended for interview but no one has the heart to tell you until much later in the season (I don't have any control over when these letters/e-mails go out).

Merged these two threads as they were posted on the same question, around the same time. Carry on.

coincidence or what?

two people thinking same thing at the same time?

telepathy

two days is definitely not worry-worthy 😉
I've been "under review" at Temple since mid-August. This is what I'd call worry worthy. 😛

Thanks for the reply, but I think this reason is the most insidious and frustrating and it seems like you agree. You may not have any control but you do have a more powerful voice in the process so I hope you tell them your opinion.
In a way, it is sort of funny. Given the openness in communication required in medicine, I hope I'm not the only one who sees the irony in a medical school delaying the bad news until very late in the season. In short, I would rarely see doctor who treated me that way and neither would you.

Give me a break. "The office" here farms out applications to a first reader who has 2 weeks to review it and pass it to a second reader who also gets two weeks. Depending on when the readers' recommendation hits the office, it can be another week (at least) before an interview invitation goes out. Now, you can be the lucky one who gets reviewed and passed through the system in 48 hours but it is just as likely to take 5 weeks. After that, you can assume that you are "middle of the pack" and will not be invited or will be invited late in the season. Keep in mind that many schools interview less than 25% of the applicant pool.🙁

Is this 5 weeks from the date of completion?

This is very informative! Thank you!

I don't think so. In the very beginning of the season we have a huge influx and it is too overwhelming for the readers so the pile is distributed a couple dozen at a time. So, you might sit around for a few weeks waiting for an avialable reader. Another glitch is when stuff gets sent to a reader who isn't "available" and it sits around for two weeks and the office asks the reader what's going on and gets it back & sends it out to someone else. (This is not unlike peer review of manuscripts if you've had any experience with that).

LizzyM,

I have been hearing that schools are claiming to have more applications than ever. Would you agree with this assesment? In my opinion it is simply the new MCAT schedule allowed a lot more people to get applications in early. How will this affect non-stellar applicants? Thanks for your input!
