Hi everyone!

I'm currently a high school senior, and I have been accepted into Washington University in St. Louis, Johns Hopkins University, and MedStart, an 8 year BS/MD program at Wayne State University. I am positive that I want to become a doctor, and I want to major in neuroscience.

Does anyone have any advice about choosing from one of these schools?

Congrats.

My two cents: balance where you would be most comfortable versus how much money you would save for any given school. They're all good places in their own ways.

BS/MD programs are great and can save you a lot of hassle when everyone else is applying to medical school by the usual route, but your "positive" can change between now and med school matriculation. Think about what might happen if you go to Wayne State as a BS/MD student and decide to not go the MD route. Just food for thought.

If you're positive, 100% take the BS/MD acceptance. I cannot tell you how much I wish I had looked into these programs before undergraduate. If you can save yourself the insane amount of stress, time and money applying, do it.

Otherwise Johns Hopkins isn't a horrible choice either haha, having a name like that behind you wouldn't hurt during the app cycle, assuming your stats are up to par.

I wouldnt do the bs/md at wayne state. You arent really saving any time and you still have to take the MCAT anyways. Might as well go to a strong university with more premed and non premed options. Even if the mcat wasnt required, the step 1 is just as if not more of an obstacle than that. You cant escape from standardized exams.
