Not that I won't try to have my B.S. degree, I just want to be sure I am on "some safe side". You never know what may happen. So, is it really necessary to have an undergad degree before matriculating into an MD/PhD program? A general answer will be ok.

Yes.

If you don't have a BA/BS it will be a huge strike against you and it someone could argue that it's possible, but just finish--it's not woth the hassle. Take your time and get plenty of research experience with your classes. That's the key to getting into the top programs.

WashU doesnt require an undergrad degree. As long as you have 90 credit hours, thats good enough

There's been this debate before in pre-allo. It boils down to:

Is that 90 credits with the expectation you will finish a degree by the time you matriculate? If not, how big a strike against you will not having a BA/BS be? Do you know anyone at WashU who has pulled it off?

WashU also says only 2 summers of research are required to apply. Yeah, do you know anyone with only 2 summers of research who got into WashU MSTP? Everyone I know had several YEARS of research. I have a feeling that unless you have some extraordinary characteristic you're not going to get in with 2 summers of research, the same way you're not going to get in without completing a degree.

I could be wrong; this is just my take on things.

I applied and was accepted to WashU MSTP last year (I almost went there).

Anyways, during the revisit, I specifically remember Brian Sullivan (mstp admin) say that an undergrad degree is not required for the MSTP program.

He didnt say how many people actually get accepted to WashU without an undergrad degree, but from his tone I implied that they didnt really seem to care about it that much. He was very nonchalant about it.

neuronix you might be right that they accept almost nobody without a degree, but from what I understand, it really doesnt factor into their decision.
