Hi everyone!!

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the type of English class I should take as a med school prereq? My school offers many this upcoming fall, varying from "The personal essay" to "Writing non-fiction" to "writing seminar" etc. Do you think there's an advantage to taking something like like the non-fiction one on an application? Thanks!!

I don't know whether this is true for med schools, but writing courses are not always counted as English courses so I would check. Personally, I'd recommend taking a literature course of some sort rather than a creative writing course, but really you should just take whatever sounds most interesting to you!

Some schools require a semester of literature and a semester of composition. The classes you mentioned seem like they would satisfy the composition requirement but in the future try to take a lit class too.

What about having placed out of a whole year of English courses because of AP credit from high school? Will schools find issue with not taking them at college?

Will they be able to tell you didn't take them in college? I think often you just end up with "Introductory Writing - Credit (or Pass)" on some such your transcript

A lot of schools specify on their pre-med requirements they do not accept AP credit. So, be wary

What about AP --> Transcript credits for a uni course --> prereq satisfied?

Like, for a 5 on AP Calc you get "Calculus 1 - Credit/Pass" on your transcript at my uni. Would that satisfy the math requirement for someplace like UCLA that doesn't take APs?
