This fall my GPA dropped from a 3.9 to a 3.4. Will this look bad to admissions committees??? I'm sure I can bring it up, but was wondering if this will influence my chance of getting in. I'm planning on graduating with a 3.6/3.7. Please send me any advice!

I don't mean to be blunt but what kind of advice can you possibly be expecting/seeking? Obviously rising GPAs look better than falling ones. But if you graduate with a 3.7 you will do fine. So I guess my advice is get more A's next semester...

I would say that significant of a drop could raise eyebrows and you might get asked about it during an interview. However, with a final cumulative of 3.6-3.7, it really shouldn't hurt you that much.

why'd you drop in the first place? you have to ask yourself that first.

My grades dropped too this past semester. What if it was due to a medical illness? I know its not an excuse but do you think adcoms will look a lot less harshly on that if my reason was because I had to miss a lot of class due to illness, doctor & hospital visits, etc?

yes, there is a blank on the application to explain drops in grades

Not to worry I can tell you there is more to your application than a GPA.
I know of several folks with GPAs around 3.2 who have gotten in this year (and yes really early). They just made sure they covered the other points of the application. Volunteer, Do something in hosipital, do things, travel.

In fact I had a withdraw and an incomplete on my transcripts and still got in. So I think you will be ok. You really do have a high GPA.
