have you ever borrowed money for your tuition?
NO, I have never borrowed money for my tuition, but still need some money for other expenses...

There are these things called "credit cards". You can use them to buy things and pay for them later. Try those...

If you have school-related expenses (which include living expenses such as housing and food) you should qualify for Federal Stafford Loans. These you would apply for through your financial aid office.

Guys, do banks or credit unions offer student loans? SInce I cant get it through the college, can I get it through of of these two?

Banks and credit unions do offer student loans but to get any student loans you have to go through your financial aid office. You will start by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) which will determine which types of loans you are eligible for. If you are not eligible for the federal loans then banks may consider you for private student loans (at appreciably higher interest rates and they require good credit or a cosigner...not the case with the Federal Stafford loans).
If I were you, go back to the financial aid office and explain that you want to apply for a student loan. If they say they don't offer loans then you are not in the financial aid office.
Student loans are for eligible student expenses. These include tuition, books/supplies, room & board. If you need money for things other than these, you need to get a personal private loan from a bank or use a credit card. Interest rates will be much higher than student loan rates over the long term.

Here at UF, I know the financial aid office is pretty generous with emergency loans for students. They'll loan up to 1000 dollars I think, and you don't have to pay it off until the end of the semester. Interest rates are also very low. I assume if you're at a large school, they'll most likely have a similar program.

Guys, I think the OP is saying that his school doesn't offer student loans through the school. Not all schools do, it's unusual but does happen, especially if it's a community college, which the OP didn't say one way or the other. I know one of the community colleges I attended didn't have a stafford loan program, but at the time I didnt' need loans so I didn't pay attention to how to go about getting them as a student anyway. My best advice would be to call or check out a website for various banks and see if they offer non-Stafford loans or even Stafford Unsubsidized loans without having to go through a school.

Even for the private student loans, they almost always require you to qualify for Stafford loans first. If the financial aid office doesn't help people get loans to attend their school, then what does the financial aid office do?
