I am going to be going back to school in the near future and I am trying to decide on a major.... my employer will pay for school but only certain majors. I am just curious what everybody else is majoring in. I know that I should major in something that I am intersted in but just am wondering what everyone else is doing. I am also wondering if somebody can tell me what you can do with a Humanties degree? Thanks!!!

Electrical Engineering major here. I don't know if being an engineer makes me a better lover, but it makes your classes much more interesting. There's no mindless memorization. All your classes will require original thought. You get to solve problems using your ingenuity and I think provides great training for medicine. Plus, if you can do well in engineering courses, bio and chem classes will seem like a walk in the park.

Personally, I have a degree in Chemistry and Philosophy. What are you planning to do with your degree? If you're planning to go to med school, I assure you it won't matter one whit what you decide to major in-- you should take your own advice and study something you're interested in. Of course, if your employer only pays for certain majors, I'd be inclined to go that route. You can always round out your education with some electives here and there.

I actually found a post about majors back a couple pages!! Thanks for the posts!!!

There are a few majors that I am interested in that will be paid for I am just trying to decide.... Finance, Accounting, History, Psychology, Spanish, Computer Science and Humanities (if I can figure out what else can be done w/ this one). It is so hard to choose but at least I have choices that I will not have to pay for!!! 🙂

economicsss in the house. its is fun , last term we did a project on the current state of the economy, and recommendations. for me, it is fun because i can "understand" more about our economy, even though it is a very inexact science

History in the house
What more is better than learning your own heritage.
What more is better than knowing that during the Roman Republic...there used to public orgies...yee haa!!!
What more is better than arguing, writing 40-page papers, good relationship with your history professor if you are hist.major.
What is more better than no stupid 3-hr labs, no stupid weekly quizes, and more.

HISTORY MAJOR IS THE BESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!

I'm a biology and chemistry double major, but in my previous life (the first time I went to college) I majored in everything from music education to english to hotel/motel management to theater/dance. As a result I'm currently a senior by credits but not going to graduate with a degree until 2006.

My advice would be to major in whatever you like the most out of those choices. Getting an education paid for is always nice. Just make sure you do extremely well in your prereqs....

I will warn you that out of the majors your employer would pay for it will be tough to find a job in the "field" in history, psychology, spanish, and humanities, unless you get education certified. You would probably need to get a graduate degree in any of those if things didn't work out med school wise. Out of your choices tho, those are the ones I'd find the most intriguing and interesting to study tho. In fact I'm thinking of minoring in psychology myself 🙂

Like I said tho, just do whatever you feel the most attracted to, and make sure you do well in it. The diversity will only serve you well when you end up applying to med school...

Good luck!
