Undergrad question

How much do you think schools take into account the school you go to? I go to a relatively competative/difficult school so my grades in basic sciences such as biology and organic chemistry aren't as high as if I attended an easier school. Do schools really value attaining a bachelor's degree?

Some may disagree, but I think it can make a difference. I know that some community colleges can be just as tough as state universities, but for the most part they are not. People can get in with classes from these schools, but I believe if it came between and person with a 3.5 from a state university and a 4.0 from a community college, they would go with the person from the state university. You have to remember though it is not just grades. You have to figure volunteer work, pharmacy experience, letters of recommendations, and ec's.

I'm guessing you go to Vanderbuilt? I think adcoms definitely take into consideration the undergrad school. Especially if (like the above poster said) they are comparing you to someone who went to a junior college or a university with an "easier" reputation.

I really do not think it matters what school you go to. I high GPA in any school will get you an interview. It was nice to major in German. I was able to focus on the science classes and get easy A's in my other classes. Just try to do well on the PCAT and write an outstanding personal statement. Take some easy courses and get that GPA up!

I did my undergrad at UT and my organic came from a very small private school during the summer... It was MUCH easier... and i ended up with 2 As instead of Bs or Cs. i definitely think Universities are looked at more favorablely than Comm Colleges however. Coming from UT and having a better GPA than Vandy (though we all know vandy is better) i think they may look at GPA.

honestly i have no idea. but i did what i could to make my GPA as good as possible.
