Undergrad Research Project Suggestions

Hey all! I am currently a senior in my undergrad and have been assigned a research project of which I have to write a 10 page research paper and give a 50 minute lecture on any science related topic. Anyone have any ideas involing dentistry? I haven't had any dental education as an undergrad and it seems like this is an appropriate time to learn a little something. I am looking for something interesting to present, that also has a lot of information available. Thanks for any suggestions!

It kind of depends on what your interests are as well as your background. If you are into microbiology you could do something about blood born disease transmission to health professionals (needle sticks, aid, hep, incidence etc). If you like public health, you could research the access to care problem among the Hispanic Population. Dental Ergonomics is a hot topic that has tons of info if you are into that. Flouride Varnish application for prevention, Oral peircing and its effects in the oral cavity. Antibiotic Prophylaxis for cardiac/pros. joint patients-is it necessary?, or the ever popular Flouride in Drinking Water. You can take it in so many directions. Good luck and let us know what you decide. This is a great application booster, by the way.

Thanks for the response, it's extremely helpful! I thought this project would be a plus during my application process. I have an interview on Jan. 30 at OHSU and will be giving this presentation the following week. Hopefully I will be able to find an appropriate time during my interview to mention it.

The Fluoride Varnish is an interesting topic with tons of info available, as well as the blood born pathogens topic, but I'm looking for something with some in depth science and research to it.
