Okay, maybe this is the wrong forum, or perhaps the wrong website, but you are the right kind of people to know. (Exuse me if I'm mistaken.)
Basically, I'm a pre-pre-med, ha! I'm a high school student with a love of all sciences and a strong interest in medicine.
So, I've already applied to two schools, I am already accepted at the U of I, and I don't see why I wouldn't be accepted at the UW. Naturally, finances are going to determine whether I can go to the UW or the U of I or even if I can make it to a community college. Without the support of either of my parents, and the fact that both have issues that will make getting federal aid extremely difficult for me, I continue to want to do something I want to do. If my dad has his way, I'll have to make my way in heavy-equipment/construction/work I don't like.
Assuming that I could find a way to finance most of my first year, I'm wondering what you all think the chance of finding a research project that could waive tuition & perhaps give me a little stipend, or atleast be able to help me out, are?
I realize that I'm probably not the first to think of such a plan, and it wouldn't surprise me if it is extremely unlikely to find such prospects, but I'd really like to know how unlikely you think it may be. Ideally, I'd like to do something that I find interesting, perhaps it would let me know if I want to spend the rest of my life in research, or if I just want to become a physician. That'd be the greatest thing, learning something you find interesting & getting paid to do it. I'm jealous of all who do just that. If all else fails, there are loans, but those don't sound so great... but anyway, I know the UWSOM is well funded, but I haven't found much about the undergraduate track, although there are obviously more prospects at the UW than at the U of I
Maybe someone has some input about those two schools?
Any input would be appreciated. (I'm not like a genius or anything, which is probably more than clear in my writing, but I try to do very well.) And who knows, I may turn out to be interested in applying to a medschool/MSTP program down the line...
