I am currently a high school senior with an idea of heading into the dental profession. I am currently contemplating on attending UC Irvine or UC Riverside in biological sciences. Which university would cater to my needs?

In terms of the quality of education, there probably isn't any significant differences between those 2 schools.

That being said, I like OC better than Riverside though.

I would choose Irvine, based on my personal preference.

i dont know if this is true but i think uci is "harder" than ucr. i got a 3.7 gpa at ucr. i dont know if my gpa would be as high at uci. would a 3.7 at ucr look better than a 3.5 at uci? i have no idea? there are a lot of arguements over if a low gpa is compensated by a hard school. would i have gotten a 3.5 at uci? no idea.

i would never know because i never taken a class at uci. i just think in my mind that other ucs like ucla, ucsd, and uci are "harder" than ucr.

however, i also heard that ucr's science classes are equally as "hard" as other ucs.

i know it is hard to pick what college you go to. i know everyone probably says this, but i think whatever college you pick you will end up being happy when you go there.

I would weigh the two schools based on what you value most. I cant speak to UCR's biology program, but I know that UCI's is top notch. I think that the assertion of UCI and UCR being close academically is an egregious mistake. Visit the two schools and you'll see the difference

i know a lot of people think ucr is like one of the worst ucs, but i think it might be hard to say. i also thought that ucr was one of the worst ucs and i might still think that. i dont know, but there are a lot of factors to take into consideration.

i think all the ucs cover the same material. that is why ucr students also do well on the dat? or they might just study a lot on their own? i dont know. lots of unknown factors.

some people might say ucr has less competition and i think they might be right? i am really not sure because i never taken a class at any other uc. i would like to take the same classes at a different uc to see the difference myself. i want to take like bio, chem, ochem, and physics at all the uc, but im not sure how possible that will be.

when i was in high school i didnt really have a choice beacuse ucr was the only college that i got into. nevertheless, i am glad that i went to ucr because ucr lead me to my first choice so i dont really have anything to complain.....

@op again, i would suggest either school. i think you will end up liking whatever school you choose. also, you were accepted into both so i think you will be able to do well academically in either of them. as long as you work hard it doesnt really matter which university you go to. the dental schools will be able to see this and reward your hard work.

I don't understand how a science program can be better than others. Both institutions have Ph.D teachers who are trained and have experience with those fields. You basically just have to beat average in your classes since most science classes are curved. In college, the grades are composed of basically a midterm and final. You must have to beat the average and maintain a good GPA. What you are studying here, like O Chem and Physics are not going to be needed in dental school. That's why most people just cram the night before to get that A. They don't care about anything else. Both schools go on quarter systems, so every quarter is pretty fast!(10 weeks). If you perform the same at both schools, it won't affect your dental school chances. UCI does have a lot of research opportunities, so that's helpful. I'm not as familiar w/ UCR's.
I think you're choice is pretty easy though. Would you rather live in Riverside (heat, dust, cow manure, meth labs) or Orange County (cool breezes, great views, diverse food, hot women)?

i think ochem and physics are important for dental school? you shouldnt cram for ochem? you want to learn ochem thoroughly because you will need to know it for the dat?

i am not sure if cramming is a good idea? it might work for undergrad but in dental school i dont think cramming is gonna cut it?

as for research i didnt have any trouble finding research. i just asked one of my professors that i liked and he said sure

Yeah I go to UCI. I'm not sure how UCR's biology program is, but at UCI its top notch just as someone mentioned earlier. You also need to consider the campuses. I've been to riverside many times and there are not as many things to do there as the OC. Also there are lots of hooottt Asian chicks if that tickles your fancy 😀. Will you get a higher GPA at UCR? maybe. But honestly, after all this time in college I've learned that its about how much blood, sweat, and tears you put into your grades. College isn't like high school. For the most part, the grades you get is what you deserve, whether they be high or low.
